The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Gwinnett County Police Department on August 14, 2024:
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – The Gwinnett County Police Department has arrested Javaris Virgin (30-years-old, Lawrenceville) for outstanding warrants after he ran from police officers and was later tracked down by a police K9.
On July 29, officers responded to the 800 block of Royal Cove in Lawrenceville after Virgin’s ex-girlfriend called police to report that he injured her during an argument and broke her phone. According to the victim, she asked Virgin to return her car after their breakup. When he refused to give the car back, they got into an argument and Virgin grabbed the victim’s wrist, leaving visible injuries. Virgin then took the victim’s phone and broke it. A portion of the incident was captured on video by a witness, so officers took warrants for Virgin for battery, criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, simple battery, and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. Virgin left the area before the police arrived that day and was not arrested.
On August 10, police were once again called to the residence after the same victim called police and told them that Virgin punched her during an argument. Virgin was still on scene when officers arrived, and they attempted to arrest him for the July 29 incident. When officers tried to take Virgin into custody, he was able to run from them, resulting in a short foot chase. That foot chase ended when Virgin ran into a wood line and disappeared from the officers. Sgt. Doan and K9 Nitro responded to the scene and were able to track Virgin through multiple different properties. Sgt. Doan and K9 Nitro were eventually able to locate Virgin hiding from police in a group of bushes. Virgin was arrested and charged with additional charges of false imprisonment and obstruction of police officers.
