K-Mom’s Kitchen, located at 2645 North Berkeley Lake Road North West in Duluth, received a score of 66 points out of a possible 100 points during their 05/06/2024 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation #1
2-2D: .07(3)(b)Both hand sinks in kitchen did not have paper towels. Each handwashing sink shall be provided with individual, disposable towels, a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel, or a hand drying device. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Paper towels were placed at both hand sinks.

Violation #2
3-1D: .04(5)(f)Facility does not have parasite destruction letters for crabs that they’re serving raw. If the fish are frozen by a supplier, a written letter of parasite destruction from the supplier stipulating that the fish supplied are frozen to a temperature and for a time specified under subsection (5)(e) of this Rule may substitute for the records specified under paragraph 1 of this subsection. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Parasite destruction letter was provided from supplier.

Violation #3
4-1A: .04(4)(c)1(i)(ii)(iii)(v) (vi)(vii)(viii)Observed raw egg being stored above ready-to-eat garlic paste, raw beef stored above ready-to-eat sesame leaves, and raw fish stored ready-to-eat soup in reach-in cooler. Observed raw squid being stored behind ready-to-eat sesame leaves in prep cooler. Food shall be protected from cross contamination by: (i) Except as specified in paragraph (i)(III) of this subsection, separating raw animal foods during storage, preparation, holding, and display from: (I) Raw ready-to-eat food including other raw animal food such as fish for sushi or molluscan shellfish, or other raw ready-to-eat food such as fruits and vegetables, (P) and (II) Cooked ready-to-eat food; and (P) (III) Frozen, commercially processed and packaged raw animal food may be stored or displayed with or above frozen, commercially processed and packaged, ready-to-eat food. (ii) Except when combined as ingredients, separating types of raw animal foods from each other such as beef, fish, lamb, pork, and poultry during storage, preparation, holding, and display by: (I) Using separate equipment for each type, (P) or (II) Arranging each type of food in equipment so that cross contamination of one type with another is prevented, (P) and (III) Preparing each type of food at different times or in separate areas; (P) (iii) Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils; (v) Cleaning hermetically sealed containers of food of visible soil before opening; (vi) Protecting food containers that are received packaged together in a case or overwrap from cuts when the case or overwrap is opened; (vii) Storing damaged, spoiled, or recalled food being held in the food service establishment separate from food, equipment, utensils, linens and single-service and single-use articles; or (viii) Separating fruits and vegetables, before they are washed from ready-to-eat food.
Corrective Actions: Items were moved to proper storage locations.

Violation #4
4-2B: .05(8)(a)Observed employee rinse off ladle and place it into clean utensil area. Utensils and food-contact surfaces of equipment shall be sanitized before use after cleaning. (P)
Corrective Actions: Employee recleaned and sanitized ladle.

Violation #5
5-2: .04(7)(e)Facility is serving raw marinated crab but does not have consumer advisory on menu. If an animal food is served or sold raw, undercooked, or without otherwise being processed to eliminate pathogens, either in a ready-to-eat form or as an ingredient in another ready-to-eat food, the permit holder shall inform consumers of the significantly increased risk of consuming such foods by way of a disclosure and reminder using brochures, deli case or menu advisories, label statements, table tents, placards, or other effective means. The disclosure and reminder statements shall be worded in legible type in all capital letters and no smaller than size #8 font, or if displayed on a menu board shall be printed no smaller than the smallest letter in used for a menu item. Violation #6
8-2B: .07(6)(g)Observed multiple sanitizer buckets with chlorine concentrations above 100ppm. Chemical sanitizers used on food contact surfaces shall not exceed stated concentrations (100 ppm for chlorine and 400 ppm for quaternary ammonia). (P)
Corrective Actions: Sanitizer was remade.

Violation #7
8-2B: .07(6)(b)Observed multiple spray bottles on cart in dining room without labels. Working containers used for storing poisonous or toxic materials such as cleaners and sanitizers taken from bulk supplies shall be clearly and individually identified with the common name of the material. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Spray bottles were labeled.
