[NARRATIVE #1 on October 24, 2025]

On October 24, 2025, at approximately 1606 hours, I, Officer Joel Compton responded non-emergency to the Hi-Tech for a disturbance involving a male subject yelling at customers and causing a scene inside the store.

Once on the scene, I met with the caller, identified as [VICTIM #1] (the owner of the Hi-Tech). [VICTIM #1] advised that there was a male subject behind the store who had been inside cursing and throwing items around. I then drove around to the backside of the store where I located a male subject, identified as James Darryl Harrison.

Upon exiting my Patrol Vehicle I asked Harrison to come speak to me. As he approached me Harrison appeared to stumble and sway from side to side. When asked if he was ok, Harrison stated that he had smoked a pre-wraped item that he had purchased inside the store. When asked what it was, he continuously told me that it was a cigar that had something that was synthetic inside.

I asked Harrison to sit on the front bumper of my vehicle which he did but soon after stood back up but had to keep his hand on the bumper to stable himself. At one point Harrison stated that I could pat him down. As I patted down his left hand pocket he stated that he did have a small pocket knife located there, I asked if I could retrieve said knife from his pocket and he said yes. I placed the knife on the hood of my vehicle.

At this point Ofc. Jeremy Newsom 211 arrived on scene. While speaking with 211 Harrison advised that he was on probation for Aggravated Assault and Drug Related Crimes. When asked if he had a 4th waiver he advised he did. At this point 211 began doing a deeper search of his person (negative contraband located).

When asked how Harrison got here he said that he had arrived here with his Girlfriend in a White 2010 Toyota Avalon. When asked if she was still there Harrison stated that she wasn’t because they had an argument and had left with her son. Harrison stated they had come to Cornelia to pick the son up from work. After the argument Harrison had went in the store and bought the pre-wraped item and smoked but didn’t finish it as it had begun to make him feel strange.

211 then asked Harrison if he had anything to drink and he stated had drunk one alcoholic beverage prior to coming to Cornelia and that he had shared it with his Girlfriend. At this point 211 went and talked to the Girlfriend while I remained with Harrison. During this time Lt. Joe Pontes 208 arrived on scene and began gathering information from the store owner, myself and 211.

During this time, an incident occurred with 211 when the son showed up on the scene. Due to the situation unfolding and the situation that had already occurred prior to Law Enforcement’s arrival on scene. I advised Harrison he was under arrest for Disorderly Conduct (CO18-56) (CIT#2122500006). Harrison was placed in cuffs from the rear checking proper fit and double locking. He was then placed in the rear portion of my patrol car which had been cleared prior of any contraband.

Harrison was transported to the Habersham County Detention Center where he was turned over to Jail Staff without any further incident. I then cleared my back seat of any contraband before going back in route to Cornelia.

[NARRATIVE #2 on October 24, 2025]

On 10/24/2025, I, Officer Newsom, responded Code one to the High-Tech Gas Station in reference to a disturbance involving a male customer.

Once on scene I observed Officer Compton was searching a male later identified as James Harrison at the front of his patrol car. While listening to Harrison speak, I could see he had droopy eye lids with blood shot watery eyes, his speech was dull and slurred and a strong odor of an adult alcoholic beverage was coming from his person.

Harrison stated that he had purchased a pre rolled cigarillo inside the store and smoked it in the parking lot and it caused him to feel weird. Harrison consented to a search for his person, and nothing was located. When he was asked about his drinking, he stated that he and his girlfriend had split some alcohol earlier and that he could have her pick him up. He stated that she had dropped him off at the gas station prior to our arrival.

While speaking with the gas station clerk about the incident a female later identified as Jodie Pressley was standing at the corner and stated she was with Harrison. When I walked up to speak with her, she stated that she was driving and had to drop Harrison off at the gas station.

While speaking with Pressley I could smell an adult alcoholic beverage coming from her person and when asked about if she had been drinking, she stated that she and her son, and Harrison had a shot of alcohol earlier. I asked Pressley to walk to the other side of the store where her vehicle was parked. Pressley made the comment that she wasn’t comfortable driving due to her drinking.

While standing by with her vehicle I began my DUI investigation and observed a younger male walking briskly from the opposite side of the parking lot from the roadway. This male was later identified as Brian Taylor. Taylor began yelling across the parking lot with his left hand in front of his pants concealed.

As Taylor kept advancing towards me, I told him to show me his hand multiple times at which he did not listen to my commands. I defeated the retentions on my service weapon and began to draw it for officer safety at which point he finally complied by showing me his other hand and lifting his shirt. I told him to turn around at which point I detained him in handcuff’s in the rear, double-locking them for correct and proper fit.

While taking Taylor to the curb to sit him down I could smell a strong odor of an adult alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Due to his age of being under 21, his obvious intoxication, and reckless behavior, Taylor was informed he was under arrest. He was placed into Lt. Pontes patrol vehicle for transport. Taylor was transported to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Department and released to jail staff without further incident.

I contacted dispatch to have the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Heat Unit Dep Young assist on the DUI investigation. Pressley was turned over to Deputy Young for his investigation.
