On 7/11/2025, I, Officer Newsom, responded Code one to the Vape World in reference to a follow up investigation on a hit and run accident. see report 25-07-0006. I was notified that the clerk at the store had video footage of the accident. Upon arrival and review of the footage I observed the accident occur on Old Cleveland Road and the truck that fled the scene pull through the Vape World parking lot where I observed the tag number of [REDACTED]. The vehicle returned to a [REDACTED] at the address of [200 BLOCK] Jud Tench Rd in Demorest Georgia.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Adam Ivester and myself traveled to the address where I did not see the truck in the drive way but made contact with the registered owner [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] explained that his step son Caleb Hopkins was driving the truck and he should be home any minute. I explained it was involved in a hit and run accident. Shortly after the truck pulled into the driveway operated by Caleb Hopkins. I asked Hopkins why he thought I was there and replied that he had “bumped” a car and did not stop after words. Hopkins was then placed under arrest for Hit and Run and placed in the rear seat of my patrol car.
[REDACTED] walked to the truck to observe the damage on his vehicle where I discovered an open container of alcohol laying just behind the driver seat. [REDACTED] confirmed that the open container of alcohol was not there when he had the truck because he had just cleaned it out.
Hopkins was transported to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office where he was released to jail staff without incident on the charges of Hit and run, driving on the wrong side of the road, and possession of an open container of alcohol.
