On the date of 02/24/2026 I Sgt. Vaughn responded code 1 to the area of the Demorest US Post Office to assist Demorest Police Department on a call for service in reference to a suspicious person. Dispatch advised there was a white male walking and shouting curse words and shooting birds at passing cars.

Upon my arrival I observed Officer Brogdon standing with a white male sitting in front the post office handcuffed. The male appeared standoffish and like he was verbally arguing with officer Brogdon. Me and Deputy Mcclain went and stood with the suspect while officer Brogdon went to further his investigation.

The suspect kept asking me what he had done and what my name was I pointed to my name tag and the suspect began talking about his friend with the same last name. The suspect then asked me what he had done wrong. I pointed to the alcoholic beverages, nicotine vape, and cigars he had beside him and advised him that he was 17 in possession of contraband while intoxicated in public. The suspect started to stand up and I placed my hand on his shoulder without force and advised him not to stand up. The suspect then turned and spit in my face. I gained control of the suspects right arm and escorted him to a patrol car where he was then placed in the back seat of the patrol car and secured.

After further investigation it was determined that the suspect had attempted to go inside the business of Holden Oversoul. Written statements provided by Manager [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated the following, On Tues, Feb 24th, Shortly after 10pm a man attempted to enter Holden Oversoul restaurant.

A server met him at the door and told him we were closed. He began to get agitated, raising his voice to demand that we let him in to eat. The server tried closing the door so she could lock it and he put his foot out to keep her from closing it. She told him to leave multiple times, and he did not. At that point the server yelled for me to help her. I was seated at the bar counting the cash from the night. Over $3000 cash was out on the bar so I was scared we were getting robbed. I jumped up to go to the door and at that point he pulled his foot back and allowed the server to close the door and lock it.

Victim [REDACTED BY AGENCY] wrote in a written statement the following, At around 10:00 PM a man came in to the restaurant, I told him we were closed he still stood in the door, I said sir were closed again. He said I need to get food I walked all the way from my moms. I said sorry you are going to have to come back tomorrow. He stuck his foot in the door and would not let me shut it. I kept telling him to leave and he wouldn’t so I had to yell for my manager then he left. The manager requested to press charges for criminal trespass.

After concluding that I would be charging the suspect identified as Christopher Sorrell for spitting in my face I advised Officer Brogdon I would handle the entire case. We went and removed Sorrell from the back of [REDACTED BY AGENCY] car to move him into the back of my patrol vehicle in order for me to transport him to the detention center. Sorrell was verbal the entire time yelling and passively resisting to walk towards my patrol vehicle.

When I placed him inside the rear seat of my patrol vehicle Sorrells began actively kicking me in the legs and resisting orders to stop. When Sorrell would not stop kicking me I delivered two open palm strikes to his face area to attempt to subdue and gain control over Sorrells to secure him in the vehicle.

Sorrells continued to kick me and then tried to head butt me. I grabbed his clavicle or chest area to hold him back and tried to reach over him to secure him with a seat belt. At this time while still kicking Sorrells headbutted me in the chin area and then reared back and spit in my face again. I then delivered three open palm strikes to his face to stop him from being able to spit in my face.

To de escalate the situation and prevent further violence or use of force Sorrells was left in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle un seatbelted. Sorrells was pulled across the seat so the door could be closed. No further force was used agaisnt Sorrells. Sorrells requested to speak to my supervisor so Lt. Hicks was contacted and arrived on scene to speak with Sorrells.

After they were done speaking I transported Sorrells to the Habersham County Jail. Sorrells while en route to the jail attempted to use the drivers side back seatbelt to choke himself. I pulled over near the Medical center to ensure that Sorrells was not choking and then went back en route to the jail after Sorrells willingly sat up. I advised the jail that the suspect was actively making suicidal comments / actions. Once at the jail Sorrells was turned over to detention center staff. I conducted a rear seat check for contraband prior too and after transporting Sorrells, No contraband was located.

Arrest warrants for Public Intox, Criminal Trespass, Simple Battery, Felony Obstruction, loitering, and possession of tobacco by a person under the age of 21, Underage possession of Alcohol were secured.
