On 08/08/2026, Lieutenant Matthew Wurtz conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 115 at Singing Hills Lane. Lieutenant Wurtz requested my assistance due to the driver possibly being impaired.
Upon my arrival, Lieutenant Wurtz advised that he had stopped the vehicle for Failure to Maintain Lane and Misuse of the Center Turn Lane. Lieutenant Wurtz stated that he observed the vehicle turn left onto Highway 115 from Highway 17 and enter the center turn lane. He further advised that while speaking with the driver, identified as Cyntia Gantezsi, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle.
Upon making contact with Cyntia, I observed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery, and I detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath. I asked Cyntia how much alcohol she had to drink, and she stated she had one beer. I then asked how large the beer was, and she stated she could not remember.
I asked Cyntia if she would consent to Standardized Field Sobriety Evaluations, and she agreed.
I instructed Cyntia to remove her glasses and asked if she had any medical conditions that would prevent her from completing the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) evaluation. Cyntia stated she did not. I administered the HGN evaluation and observed: lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation in both eyes, onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes.
I then asked Cyntia if she had any medical conditions that would prevent her from completing the walk and turn evaluation. Cyntia stated she did not but advised that she was experiencing anxiety. During the walk and turn evaluation, I observed: could not maintain balance during the instructional stage, stopped while walking, missed heel-to-toe on multiple steps, stepped off the line, made an improper turn, took an incorrect number of steps
Cyntia made only a half-turn to the right rather than completing the instructed turn.
I then asked Cyntia if she had any medical conditions that would prevent her from completing the one leg stand evaluation. Cyntia stated she did not. During the evaluation, I observed that Cyntia swayed while balancing and placed her foot down before completing the test.
I requested that Cyntia provide a breath sample on an Alco-Sensor. Cyntia failed to provide an adequate breath sample.
I placed Cyntia under arrest for Driving Under the Influence. Cyntia was handcuffed in the rear, which were checked for proper fit and double locked.
I conducted a search of Cyntia incident to arrest and then read the Georgia Implied Consent Notice for suspects age 21 or older. Cyntia agreed to submit to a blood test.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and a cup containing an alcoholic beverage was located on the passenger-side floorboard.
Lieutenant Wurtz remained with the vehicle until the passenger and vehicle were picked up.
Cyntia was transported to Habersham Medical Center, where she willingly walked into the lab and voluntarily extended her right arm for phlebotomist [REDACTED], who obtained a blood sample.
Following the blood draw, Cyntia was transported to the Habersham County Detention Center, where she was turned over to detention staff without incident.
A search of the rear seat of my patrol vehicle was conducted before and after transport, and no contraband was located.
Cyntia was arrested and booked into the Habersham county detention center for the following.
- DUI
- Failure to maintain lane
- Possession of open alcohol container
- Misuse of center turn lane.
