On July 21, 2026 at approximately 1804 Deputy Holcomb was dispatched to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] for a possible physical domestic involving a gun. I was advised by the Habersham County E911 Center that a voicemail had been left on a phone belonging to a resident of Demorest. Officers with the Demorest police department responded to this subject and listened to the message. They could hear a subject yelling at a female. It appeared to be a physical domestic. The male subject stated on the video I’m going to kill your a*s. Also, stating I’m going to shoot you. Audible on the recording was him saying he was going to punish her. The female was screaming and crying. The E911 Center was able to check the history of the phone number that had left the message. The history revealed previous calls coming from [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I responded emergency with my lights and siren activated.

Upon my arrival, A staged my patrol vehicle in the cul-de-sac at the end of Harrison Trail. Walking in on foot using vehicles in the driveway for cover I made my way towards the residence. As I approach the front door a male subject later identified as Edward Ruiz exited a side door of the residence, and walked towards my location. I gave him verbal commands to show me his hands to which he complied. I asked him what his name was, where he confirmed his name was Edward Ruiz. This match the name that the E911 Center stated previous calls had came from. Due to the possibility of a gun being involved, I placed him in handcuffs behind his back. Ruiz granted me consent to search his person. No contraband was located. I asked Ruiz where the female subject was. Ruiz stated she was in the house and he granted me consent to enter the house to check on her.

Walking inside the opened side door of the residence I observed a female exit the back room of the home. I immediately observed her to be battered. I observed bruises all over her face and forehead. I observed bruising around her ears and down her neck. I observed what looked like thumbprints around her neck with redness visible. The female was later identified as [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. I asked her what was going on this evening. She originally stated nothing. I advised her that I had listened to an audio recording of her domesticating with Ruiz. She denied any knowledge.

While standing inside the living room of the residence, deputy Squires advised me he had located in Plainview on the sofa, a clear baggie containing a clear crystal like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Also, in Plainview on the coffee table was a jar containing a brown/yellow substance suspected to be THC wax. The residence had the odor of marijuana. And then read [REDACTED BY AGENCY] her Miranda warning. She denied any knowledge of the methamphetamine.

I walked outside and made contact again with Ruiz. I read Ruiz his Miranda warning. A placed a phone call to Lieutenant Wurtz and advised him of the drugs located inside the residence and requested him contact investigations. I secured Ruiz and the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. Ruiz was seatbelted in.

I returned to interview [REDACTED BY AGENCY] continue to deny any domestic situations. I advised her that Ruiz was going to jail for terroristic threats at a minimum. Officer Swinehart with the Demorest police department arrived on scene. As she walked up to the location where I was [REDACTED BY AGENCY] began to stare at her. In hopes that the female officer would compel her to speak freely about the incidents and her bruising and injuries. I asked Swinehart to speak with her. See her report as well as body cam footage. Case#[REDACTED BY AGENCY]. officer Swinehart was able to get a lot more information. She provided to me that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had been held against her wheel and unable to leave. She stated Ruiz with withheld food and money from her. She told me that this date Ruiz was mad because he thought she had stole from him. He had struck her several times with his fist.

Investigator’s arrived and the scene was turned over to them. Two firearms were located by the investigators. Due to the threat of shooting her in the voicemail aggravated assault charges were substantiated. Ruiz being a convicted felon.

I transported Ruiz to the Habersham County Sheriffs Office, where he was turned over to detention staff without incident. The rear seat of my patrol vehicle was checked prior to, and after transporting Ruiz revealing no contraband. Warrants for aggravated assault FVA. Faults imprisonment, FEA, battery FVA, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony will be taken at a later date. All other drug charges and firearm charges will be taken later by investigations.

[REDACTED BY AGENCY] was transported to the Habersham County Medical Center by Officer Swinehart. Officer Swinehart was able to obtain photographic evidence of the injuries on [REDACTED BY AGENCY] body. Those photos will be attached. Officer Swinehart was also able to provide an email of the voicemail that was left. This will also be attached. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was advised of her remedies and services such as Circle of Hope.
