On 01/24/2026 at approximately 2042 hours, I, Ofc. Schoenholz, was dispatched and responded code 3 (emergency lights and sirens) to the Cornelia Days Inn, located at 1477 Level Grove Road, Room [REDACTED], in reference to a physical domestic.
Upon arrival, occupants of the downstairs motel rooms directed me upstairs to where two males were standing outside a motel room. I ran up the stairs and made contact with two males, later identified as Gary Crane Sr. and [VICTIM #1]. In order to separate the two males, I instructed Gary Crane Sr. to come with me. I took Crane Sr. by the arm in an attempt to lead him away from [VICTIM #1].
Crane Sr. pulled away from me and attempted to enter the motel room. I then grabbed Crane Sr. by his shirt to prevent him from entering the room; however, he continued to pull away. I subsequently redirected Crane Sr. to the ground while maintaining positive control. Handcuffs were applied, checked for proper fit, and double-locked. Crane Sr. was searched incident to arrest, and no contraband was found.
Crane Sr. was escorted to my patrol vehicle and placed in the right rear seat, where he was secured with a seat belt across his lap for safety.
I then spoke with [VICTIM #1], who advised that he had taken a nap and, upon waking, observed that his father, Gary Crane Sr., was heavily intoxicated. [VICTIM #1] stated that the two began arguing and that, at some point during the argument, Crane Sr. grabbed him by the shirt.
[VICTIM #1] also advised that Crane Sr. was throwing his belongings out of the motel room. I observed a large pile of clothing and personal items outside the motel room door, consistent with [VICTIM #1]’s statement. When asked what led up to Crane Sr. becoming physical with him, [VICTIM #1] stated that he was “drunk as fu*k.” [VICTIM #1] further advised that he attempted to calm Crane Sr. down, but was unsuccessful, stating that Crane Sr. is “mean.” [VICTIM #1] stated that after Crane Sr. grabbed him by the shirt, he did not want to fight his own father and therefore contacted law enforcement.
I then returned to my patrol vehicle and made contact with Crane Sr. I attempted to advise him that he would be going to jail. When I asked him what had occurred during the altercation, Crane Sr. refused to provide a statement and did not wish to speak further.
I then transported Crane Sr. to the Habersham County Detention Center. During the transport, Crane Sr. was very agitated and made loud, derogatory comments toward me. Upon arrival at the Habersham County Detention Center, I advised jail staff that Crane Sr. had been combative.
After turning Crane Sr. over to Habersham County Detention Center custody, I conducted an inspection of the rear passenger area of my patrol vehicle and located a white powdery substance on the back seat. I removed the substance and ensured the rear seat area was clear.
Gary Crane Sr. was charged with Simple Battery FVA (16-5-23), Disorderly Conduct (16-11-39), and Obstruction (16-10-24).
