[NARRATIVE #1 on March 05, 2023]
On March 5th, 2023, SGT K HALL stopped a 1987 Dodge van for failing to Maintain Lane on Hollywood Hwy. HALL had observed the van weaving and crossing the fog line on at least 2 occasions. After activating his emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, the driver was slow to respond, finally pulling over just south of West Glade Creek Rd.
HALL approached and made contact with the driver, GREG GUNN. HALL asked for his license and explained the reason for the stop. GUNN started to say something about a bad tire, but then moved his steering wheel back and forth. HALL asked the passenger, JEANETTE BRYSON, for ID as well.
GUNN got distracted when HALL asked BRYSON for her ID and then seemed to get more nervous and became defensive. He asked why she was being asked for her ID and stated they hadn’t done anything wrong. HALL explained again why GUNN was stopped. GUNN continued to fumble with his wallet.
HALL noticed beads of sweat beginning to form on GUNN’s forehead/brow area. HALL also noted that GUNN’s pupils were very constricted. As HALL stood at the window he noted several handheld torches on the center dash. These torches are common among drug users.
GUNN was asked to exit the vehicle based on the indicators being observed of possible impairment. GUNN, still on the defensive, wanted to know why. HALL explained why and when GUNN finally exited the van, he was directed to the front of HALL’s patrol vehicle. GUNN was beginning to sweat even more.
HALL asked about medication use, drug use, or medical issues. GUNN denied using drugs and stated he had high blood pressure, but didn’t take any medications for it. HALL asked specifically about Methamphetamine. GUNN had a slight change in behavior and stated no to using Meth.
HALL asked GUNN if he would submit to some field sobriety evaluations. After minutes of arguing why he was stopped, why he was asked to get out of the vehicle, denying he was under the influence, etc., he finally allowed HALL to attempt the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test.
GUNN had difficulty keeping his eyes on the stimulus and closed his eyes several times. HALL was able to observe lack of smooth pursuit before GUNN stopped the test all together. When HALL asked about continuing to the next step, GUNN stated just to take him to the hospital for a drug test. HALL explained that they weren’t even to that point yet. GUNN agreed to continue.
After being put into the instructional position for the Walk and Turn evaluation, GUNN once again interrupted and stated “I’m gonna stop right here”. GUNN had watched while DEPUTY B. FORRESTER ran K9 Zane around the vehicle. GUNN accused HALL of just looking for a reason to search his vehicle and then stated go ahead and search.
HALL asked GUNN if wanted to continue with the evaluations. He refused at which point HALL made the decision to arrest GUNN. When HALL attempted to take GUNN into custody he resisted to the point HALL had to push him into the front bumper of his car and use an arm bar technique to get him cuffed. The cuffs were checked for fit and double locked.
GUNN was placed into the rear of HALL’s patrol vehicle after being searched. HALL read the implied consent notice and requested blood. GUNN refused to give an answer. FORRESTER had been searching the van while HALL was dealing with GUNN. FORRESTER located a camo pouch with magnets attached to the side of the driver’s seat of the van.
In the bag was a smoking device and 2 aluminum vials containing Meth. FORRESTER had also discovered multiple pieces of burnt foil in BRYSON’s purse along with an empty baggy that appeared to have contained Meth at one point. All the evidence was collected and secured. List wrecker and animal control was also requested.
When HALL got back in his vehicle to complete the impound sheet and the search warrant affidavit, GUNN began talking on his own without being questioned. He rambled on and on about how he relapsed and smoked meth the day prior. He was concerned about why BRYSON was being arrested and accused her of planting the meth in his vehicle. He admitted that he drove BRYSON to see [REDACTED] in order to buy drugs.
The vehicle was turned over to Wades towing. KUSHMAN stood by with BRYSON and for animal control to arrive for GUNN’s dog. HALL transported GUNN to the jail and while en route Judge Amy Thomas issued the search warrant to draw GUNN’s blood. On arrival GUNN was escorted inside where HALL gave him a copy of the search warrant and conducted the blood draw from the right AC.
The samples were secured in a GBI tox kit. GUNN was turned over to staff. He was charged with Poss of Meth, Poss of Drug Related Objects, DUI, FTML, and Obstruction. He was also issued a DPS 1205. HALL packaged the evidence and secured it into an evidence locker. He checked his backseat for contraband and returned to service.

[NARRATIVE #2 on April 06, 2023]
On 4/6/2023, INVESTIGATOR KUSHMAN assisted SGT. KRIS HALL with a traffic investigation in the area of Hollywood Hwy and West Glade Creek. Upon arrival, KUSHMAN made contact with JEANETTE BRYSON who was seated in the passenger seat of the suspect vehicle. A check of BRYSON’S name and date of birth revealed that she had no active warrants.
KUSHMAN had BRYSON exit the vehicle and secure the drivers, GREG GUNN, dog which was also in the van at the time of the traffic stop. KUSHMAN had BRYSON accompany him to his patrol car where she stayed with KUSHMAN while HALL conducted his investigation.
Once the investigation was complete, KUSHMAN turned GUNN’S dog over to animal control and secured BRYSON in the back of his patrol car using a seat belt. KUSHMAN provided BRYSON an escort to the Circle K on Talmadge Dr. where she was to be picked up by a family member. A back seat check of KUSHMAN’S patrol vehicle revealed no contraband.

[NARRATIVE #3 on April 06, 2023]
This Date Deputy Forrester responded to the area of Hollywood Hwy and Bob Patton in reference to assisting Sgt Hall on a traffic stop. Upon arrival Sgt Hall had the driver of the vehicle outside beginning a DUI investigation.
During this DUI investigation of the driver, Deputy Forrester and Investigator Kushman who was in the area also arrived on scene, asked the passenger to exit the vehicle. The passenger was a female in which she went to the front of Kushmans vehicle to stand with Kushman while waiting. Forrester Deployed his K9 for a narcotics sniff of the exterior air around the vehicle.
Forrester Deployed K9 Zane to the front of the vehicle to begin the first pass. Zane on the first pass a general presentation of the vehicle at the driver side door seam had a slight breathing change and a head snap about a foot passed the seam in which he traded it back to the door seam then continued on around the vehicle where Zane showed another harsh breathing changing to aggressive sniffing at the back van door that was open and he attempted to put his head in the opening that was behind the passenger seat.
Forrester then continued around the vehicle for the second pass and Zane did the same on the passenger side again. Forrester after Zane showed alert behavior returned Zane to his patrol vehicle and told Sgt Hall about the alert and probable cause to search the vehicle.
After conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle from the K9 alert in the passenger side was located a quantity of aluminum foil with Burn residue and multiple baggies with meth residue inside. On the driver side of the vehicle a small cameo bag that was magnetized to the inside of the driver seat two small containers of Methamphetamine was located.
Once the search was complete the contents of the findings were handed over to Sgt Hall and rest of the traffic stop was as well. No further assistance from Forrester or his K9 on the stop.
