On 04/07/2025 at approximately 1922 hours I, Officer Rich responded code 1 to 160 Market Corners Drive in reference to a Hit and Run.
Upon arrival, I met with the complainant identified as [WITNESS #1] which stated that he witnessed a Black Chevy Silverado back into a silver GMC Sierra before leaving the parking lot. [WITNESS #1] stated that he was sitting inside his vehicle in the hotel parking lot at approximately 1908 hours when he noticed the Black Silverado enter the parking lot driving fast. [WITNESS #1] stated the truck then leaves the parking lot approximately 5 minutes after also driving fast.
[WITNESS #1] stated that a couple minutes go by before the truck returns to the parking lot driving fast to the point were you can hear the tires screech. [WITNESS #1] stated that the truck then pulls next to him as if the truck was going to park next to him but the truck then reversed into the Silver GMC Sierra. [WITNESS #1] stated that the Black Chevy Silverado then paused for a second before pulling forward into a parking space at which time he called 911.
[WITNESS #1] was able to get a partial tag number of [REDACTED]. Due to the truck leaving before my arrival, other officers checked the Flock cameras to see if the partial tag hit but had negative results. I then ran the Tag for the GMC Sierra [REDACTED] through dispatch to see if they could get a phone number for the register owner. Dispatch then advised that the vehicle returned to an [VICTIM #1] and that they would attempt to make contact with him. Dispatch then advised that they made contact and that [VICTIM #1] would meet me in the lobby at which time I made my way inside the building.
I then entered the lobby and waited for [VICTIM #1]. [VICTIM #1] then met me in the lobby at which time myself and [VICTIM #1] walked to his truck. Upon arrival, I showed [VICTIM #1] the damage and advised [VICTIM #1] that all I had in regards to the suspect was a partial tag number. After speaking with [VICTIM #1], I then returned inside the Hotel to speak with an employee about video footage.
Upon arrival, I spoke with an employee which stated that she would have to call her manager about the video footage. After the Hotel employee spoke with her manager, the employee advised me that there are no cameras on the side of the building where the incident took place. I then asked the employee if the Hotel guests put down their tag numbers during registration to which she replied no. I then gave the employee the partial tag number for the suspect vehicle as well as a vehicle description and advised her to call 911 if the vehicle returns to the Hotel. I then relocated back outside with [VICTIM #1].
I advised [VICTIM #1] of my findings and advised him that without a tag number or video footage, there was noting I could do unless the suspect vehicle returned. I then gathered [VICTIM #1] information before providing him with an SR-13 form. I then relocated to [WITNESS #1] where I then gathered his information. I then went back into service.
Approximately 6 minutes after I went into service, I was dispatched back to 160 Market Corners Drive in reference to a follow up. While en route, dispatch advised that the employee I talked to earlier stated that the Black Chevy Silverado was back and the tag started with the same three letters I provided her [REDACTED].
Upon arrival, I met with the same employee which stated that the suspect truck is parked on the left side of the building (opposite of the original incident) and that the guest is staying in room [REDACTED]. I then moved my patrol vehicle to the left side of the building where I then found a Black Chevy Silverado bearing a tag number of [REDACTED]. I then parked behind the vehicle where I then ran the tag number through the Nation Crime Information Center/Georgia Crime Information Center. The truck returned to a Taylor Wright out of Gainesville.
I then contacted the witness [WITNESS #1] from earlier to see if he could meet me and identify the vehicle to which he agreed. [WITNESS #1] then met me near the front of the building where we then walked back to she suspect truck. I then asked [WITNESS #1] if it was the truck to which he replied yes it is. While standing with [WITNESS #1] I inspected the rear of the truck where I then observed visible damage to the rear bumper just above the trailer hitch mount. After [WITNESS #1] positively identified the vehicle as being the one in the incident, I relocated inside the lobby to gather further information.
Upon arrival, I spoke with the same employee to gather information about the guest. The Hotel employee advised that the guest that the truck belongs to is staying in room [REDACTED]. The employee asked if I could wait to speak with the guest until her manager arrives to which I agree. After waiting approximately 20 minutes, the manager arrived on scene at which time the manager spoke with me about Taylor and stated that he does have a firearm with him in the room. Myself and the Manager then relocated to room [REDACTED] where I then told the Manager to step back from the door.
I then knocked on the door at which time Taylor Wright opened the door. I then asked Taylor to step outside into the hallway to speak with me to which he stated that his key is in the room and wanted to go back inside and get it. I then advised him to not enter the room and to prop the door open while he speaks with me at which time he placed a trash can in the door way to prop it open. When Taylor walked into the hallway, I observed an odor or Alcohol coming from his person.
I then advised Taylor that I wanted to ask him questions about an incident that occured in the parking lot but needed to read him something first. I then read Taylor his Miranda Rights and asked if he was willing to speak with me. Taylor would then ask me questions about the Miranda Rights and asked if he could have a copy at which time I told Taylor that I needed a yes or no. After going back and forth, Taylor agreed to speak with me.
I then advised Taylor that I was investigating a Hit and Run that occur ed in the parking lot and asked if he knew anything about it. Taylor advised that if he bumped anyone in the parking lot that he would get with them and make it right. I then asked Taylor where he just came back from to which he replied Walmart.
During the interaction, Taylor kept insisting that he needed to return inside the hotel room to retrieve his wallet. I kept telling Taylor not to go back into the room and advised Taylor that he would be placed under arrest for obstruction if he did. Due to Taylor’s demeanor and there possibly being a firearm inside his hotel room, I advised Taylor that he was being detained.
I then told Taylor to turn around at which time I placed handcuffs on both of Taylor wrists, double locking them and checking for fit. At this time Sgt Limones arrived on scene at which time I asked Taylor again if he remembers striking another vehicle in the parking lot to which he stated that if he bumped someone, he would make it right. Sgt Limones then asked Taylor if there was anyone else that drives his vehicle to which Taylor replied no.
I then advised Taylor the he was under arrest for Hit and Run. I then escorted Taylor from the hotel, to my patrol vehicle. Upon arrival, Taylor was searched incident to arrest; negative contraband. Taylor had in his possession his wallet which held cash protruding from his wallet, the wallet was placed on the roof of my patrol vehicle while Taylor was being searched. Taylors belongings were placed inside a bag and placed on my patrol vehicle. I then assisted Taylor into my patrol vehicle.
I then brought Taylors wallet to the hood of my patrol vehicle, in front of my dash camera where I then counted the cash in Taylor’s wallet. The amount I counted was $174 in cash. The cash was then placed back into Taylor’s wallet and his wallet was then placed into the bag with his other belongings. The bag was then placed in the front seat of my patrol vehicle.
I then contacted the witness [WITNESS #1] and asked if he would fill out a witness statement form to which he agreed. [WITNESS #1] met me near my patrol vehicle where I then gave him the witness statement form. While [WITNESS #1] was filling out the form, I returned to my patrol vehicle where I then asked Taylor if he was take a voluntary breath test to which he replied that he was bring trapped.
I then advised Taylor that either way he is under arrest for Hit and Run and the breath test would not effect the outcome. After that statement, Taylor agreed to the breath test. I then went to the trunk of my patrol vehicle where I then retrieved my Preliminary Breath Test (PBT).
I then returned to Taylor where I then conducted the test. After the test, the PBT showed Taylor to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.46%. I then returned the PBT to the case before returning to [WITNESS #1] to collect the Witness statement form. After gathering the form, I returned to my patrol vehicle where I then placed Taylor’s seatbelt on him. I then went en route to the Habersham County Jail.
Upon arrival, I assisted Taylor into the Jail Facility where he was then turned over to the jail staff. I then returned to my patrol vehicle where I then wrote Taylor a traffic citation for Hit and Run. I then gave Taylor’s copy to the jail staff before exiting the facility and going back into service. I checked my back seat before and after transport; negative contraband.
