HALL COUNTY, Ga. – A Gainesville daycare worker has been charged with second-degree cruelty to children after authorities say a 1-year-old in her care suffered a broken arm.

Police said the investigation began when the child’s mother reported her son was injured while at Joyland Daycare on Monday. She told investigators the toddler had sustained a “long linear vertical fracture to his left forearm.”

The Gainesville Police Department said the child’s caregiver, identified as Abigail Arriaga-Arriaga, was accused of negligence after allegedly causing the injury. Investigators said she did not seek medical attention for the boy or notify anyone following the incident.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the injury.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Gainesville Police Department.
