HALL COUNTY, Ga. – A Jefferson man has been arrested and charged with felony child cruelty after his infant son suffered severe burn injuries while in his care, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Logan Wayne Hart, 20, was arrested in Barrow County on July 7 and taken to the Hall County Jail, where he is being held without bond. He faces a single count of first-degree cruelty to children.

Investigators said the incident happened on June 27 while Hart was caring for his son at a home in Flowery Branch. The baby sustained serious burn injuries to his foot that authorities said are consistent with being submerged in boiling liquid. The child also had a burn on his hand, believed to have occurred the same day.

The case was opened after staff from the Georgia Division of Family and Child Services contacted the sheriff’s office to report the injuries. The agency’s Criminal Investigations Bureau launched an investigation and later determined Hart was responsible.

“The burns on the child were consistent with the foot being submerged in boiling liquid,” the sheriff’s office said. “The baby also had a burn on his hand believed to have occurred on the same date.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges have not been ruled out.
