Warning: The following story contains information regarding physical violence against/neglect of children.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. – On October 2, 2023, Oakwood Police officers responded to an overdose call at a Prospect Point Drive residence located in the Mundy Mill Township neighborhood. Law enforcement immediately recognized the home due to previously responding to two overdoses at the location on March 27, 2023, and March 30, 2023.

They were also aware of BOLOs (be on the lookout) conducted for the resident and suspect, 36-year-old Shannon Brittany Villa Corta, placed by her husband in the past. On April 3, 2023, after Villa Corta failed to respond to his phone calls, he suspected she was driving under the influence (DUI) to purchase drugs with their child in the vehicle.

The first to arrive at the scene, a sergeant found Villa Corta lying unresponsive on a bathroom floor and administered Narcan. She regained consciousness, and Hall County EMS arrived, but Villa Corta refused to be transported to the hospital.

Her husband, the caller, explained that when he arrived at the residence and approached the front door, he saw Villa Corta unconscious on the floor. He had recorded himself entering the home and showed the sergeant the video.

The footage revealed their two-year-old daughter left unattended in her high chair while her mother overdosed on the floor. They found a needle in close proximity to Villa Corta.

While EMS tended to Villa Corta, the sergeant contacted a judge and informed him of the incident. The judge advised that they could charge her with reckless conduct despite medical amnesty.

Villa Corta’s husband revealed that she was also currently on probation. Attempts to contact her probation officer proved unsuccessful at that time.

Officers searched, arrested, and transported Villa Corta to the North East Medical Center “as the Hall County Jail would not take her in her current condition.” Law enforcement placed a police hold with the hospital to prohibit her unauthorized release.

When hospital staff members changed Villa Corta over into patient clothing, they discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia.

They found a bag of “whitish gray substance” in her bra and a spoon with burn marks on the bottom in her underwear. The substance tested positive for heroin and was destroyed, as per her medical amnesty.

Villa Corta faces one count of reckless conduct. This case is pending in court.

On 8/17/2023 I responded to [3700 BLOCK] Prospect Point Drive, Oakwood, GA 30566 in the Mundy Mill Township neighborhood in regards to an overdose.

The other responding units and myself immediately recognized the incident location, as our shift has responded previously to the address for an overdose that occurred on 3/30/2023, case number 23-3340, three days after the other shift rotation responded to the same address for another overdose that occurred on 3/27/2023, case number 23-3212.

BOLOs have also been placed on Shannon by her husband occurring on 4/3/2023 case number 23-3498 and 5/20/2023 case number 23-5463 in reference to his wife possibly DUI, out buying drugs, and having the couple’s child in the vehicle and not responding to his phone calls.

On this date, upon arrival, Sgt M. Brant #512 arrived first and found Shannon Villa Corta (DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1987) on the floor in a bathroom just off the kitchen. Sgt Brant Narcaned Shannon and shortly after, Shannon regained consciousness. Hall County med units arrived on scene and Shannon refused to be taken to the hospital.

I spoke with Shannon’s husband, [WITNESS #1] (DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/1989, phone number [REDACTED BY AGENCY]), whom called in the overdose. [WITNESS #1] stated that when he arrived home and approached his front door, he could see Shannon in the floor unconscious.

[WITNESS #1] provided video from outside the home and as he entered and showing the couple’s daughter, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] (DOB [REDACTED BY AGENCY]/2021) unattended in her high chair as her mother lied on the floor unconscious from the overdose. A needle was located in close proximity to Shannon.

While EMS attended Shannon, Sgt John Murray #506 contacted the on-call judge, Judge Maddox and explained to him the situation with Shannon overdosing with a infant being left uncared for. Judge Maddox advised we could charge Shannon with Reckless Conduct despite medical amnesty. [WITNESS #1] also advised me that Shannon was currently on probation and I attempted to reach out to her probation officer but was only able to leave voicemail.

With Shannon refusing medical attention and me deciding to take charges against Shannon, I placed Shannon in handcuffs which were checked for proper fit and double locked. Sgt Brant searched Shannon before placing her into my marked patrol vehicle and I transported her to North East Georgia Medical Center as the Hall County Jail would no take her in her current condition.

I turned Shannon over to the staff at North East Georgia Medical Center and placed her on a Police Hold with the hospital. While the staff changed Shannon over into their patient clothing, they located a spoon with burn marks on the bottom of the spoon in Shannon’s underwear and a bag of whitish gray substance in her bra. The staff turned the contraband over to me to which I field tested. The substance tested positive for heroin. Being that Shannon fell under medical amnesty, the narcotics was destroyed.

Photos of the positive field test as well as the video that [WITNESS #1] provided will be submitted to be uploaded to the report.
