American Deli receives a 72% on their recent health inspection

American Deli, located at 2457 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr Ste D, received a score of 72 points out of a possible 100 points during their 06/01/2022 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(4)(a)1,2,3,4(i)]
Employee observed touching ready to eat (fries and cheese) with bare hands when single-use gloves or utensils are required. COS – discarded food handled with bare hands – CODE – (4) Protection From Contamination After Receiving.

Preventing Contamination from Hands Food employees shall wash their hands as specified under DPH Rule 511-6-1-.03(5). Except when washing fruits and vegetables or as specified under subsection (a)4, food employees shall not contact exposed, ready-to-eat food with their bare hands and shall use suitable utensils such as deli tissue, spatulas, tongs, single-use gloves, or dispensing equipment. P Food employees shall minimize bare hand and arm contact with exposed food that is not in a ready- to-eat form. Pf Paragraph (a)2. of this subsection does not apply to a food employee that contacts exposed, ready-to eat food with bare hands at the time the ready-to-eat food is being added as an ingredient to a food that: contains a raw animal food and is to be cooked in the food service establishment to heat all parts of the food to at least the minimum time/temperatures specified in DPH Rule 511-6-1-.04(5)(a)1 and 2 and DPH Rule 511-6-1-.04(5)(b); P Corrected On-Site. Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(6)(f)]
Observed in the time control for safety foods in small prep cooler in front of the fryers out of temperature. Ensure that all cold food storage remains 41F or lower. Until unit is repaired, place do not use sign on the unit. COS – Discarded rice, chicken, shrimp, and vegetables. Corrected On-Site. Repeat Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(6)(b)]
Observed unlabeled spray bottles of chemicals. COS – labeled – Code – (b) Working Containers, Common Name. Working containers used for storing poisonous or toxic materials such as cleaners and sanitizers taken from bulk supplies shall be clearly and individually identified with the common name of the material. Pf Corrected On-Site. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.02(1)(d)]
The most current inspection report is not prominently displayed in public view, within 15 feet of the front or primary public door and between five feet and seven feet from the floor or in an area where it can be read at a distance of one foot away. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.02(1)(f)(1)]
Permit and choking poster not displayed for public view. Please post permit and choking aid poster in a location in the food service establishment that is conspicuous to consumers. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [O.C.G.A. 31-12A-1 to 31-12A-13]
Missing no smoking sign at entrance. Please post. Code O.C.G.A. § 31-12A-8. “No Smoking” signs; removal of ashtrays “No Smoking” signs or the international “No Smoking” symbol consisting of a pictorial representation of a burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle with a red bar across it may be clearly and conspicuously posted by the owner, operator, manager, or other person in control in every public place and place of employment where smoking is prohibited by this chapter. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(2)(k)]
Observed fly strips hanging in kitchen with flies attached. CA – change type of fly control to a commercial type that has a protective barrier and locate the unit away from where the food is repaired. Code – (k) Insect Control Devices, Design and Installation.

Insect control devices that are used to electrocute or stun flying insects shall be designed to retain the insect within the device. Insect control devices shall be installed so that: The devices are not located over a food preparation area; and Dead insects and insect fragments are prevented from contact with exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles. Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(2)(m)]
Observed back door open. COS: closed. Code: Except as specified in paragraphs 2 through 5 of this subsection, outer openings of a food service establishment shall be protected against the entry of insects and rodents by:

Filling or closing holes and other gaps along floors, walls, and ceilings; Closed, tight-fitting windows; and Solid, self-closing, tight-fitting doors. The requirements in paragraph 1 of this subsection does not apply if a food service establishment opens into a larger structure, such as a mall, airport, or office building, or into an attached structure, such as a porch, and the outer openings from the larger or attached structure are protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Exterior doors used as exits need not be self-closing if they are: Solid and tight-fitting; Designated for use only when an emergency exists, by the fire protection authority that has jurisdiction over the food establishment; New Violation.
