Baldino’s receives a 59% on their recent health inspection

Baldino’s, located at 4620 Augusta Rd, received a score of 59 points out of a possible 100 points during their 05/06/2022 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by inspector Cainan Smith were:

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.03(2)(a)-(l)(n)(o)] 
Observed that the PIC did not have active managerial control over the food safety practices of the staff. See report for specific violations, which include food contact surfaces, temperature control, proper eating, tasting, drinking, or tobacco use etc. RCA: The PIC is responsible for ensuring that food safety practices are maintained. Ensure that all PICs maintain active managerial control of the facility at all times  New Violation. Correct By: 05/16/2022

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.03(5)(j)1&2] 
Observed employee drink stored on top of the freezer with no lid or straw. CA: Employee confirmed it was a employee drink and placed a lid and straw on it. Employees shall consume food only in approved designated areas separate from food preparation and serving areas, equipment or utensil areas and food storage areas. However, drinking from a single service beverage cup with a secure lid and straw that is handled to prevent contamination of the employee’s hands, the container, exposed food, clean equipment, utensils and linens, unwrapped single-service and single-use articles will be allowed.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(3)(b)]
Observed no hand drying provisions at the hand sink upon entering the facility. CA: PIC placed paper towels at the hand sink. Hand Drying Provision. Each handwashing sink or group of adjacent handwashing sinks shall be provided with: Individual, disposable towels; Pf. Observed raw beef next to tomatoes. CA: PIC stored the meat in the correct location. Food shall be protected from cross contamination by: Except as specified in paragraph (i)(III) of this subsection, separating raw animal foods during storage, preparation, holding, and display from: Raw ready-to-eat food including other raw animal food such as fish for sushi or molluscan shellfish, or other raw ready-to-eat food such as fruits and vegetables, Corrected On-Site. Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(4)(c)1(iv)]
Observed raw beef in the walk in cooler not covered (the top meat). CA: Product was covered. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.05(7)(b)]
Observed dirty spatula used to flip beef steak cooking on the grill. Also observed bread on the prep top cooler directly touching the surface. CA: PIC discarded the food product. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(6)(f)]
Observed items in the prep top cooler temperature above 41F. CA: PIC discarded items (tuna, potatoes salad), and discussed fixing the door for the unit. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(4)(m)] 
Observed multiple dirty wet wiping clothes stored throughout the facility, and on top of prep surfaces. CA: PIC removed all dirty wet wiping clothes. Cloths in-use for wiping counters and other equipment surfaces shall be: Held between uses in a chemical sanitizer solution at a concentration specified under DPH Rule 511-6-1-.05(6)(n); and  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(3)(d)]
Observed no handwashing signage in the women’s bathroom. CA: PIC placed the signage in the women’s bathroom. Corrected On-Site. New Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.04(4)(k)]
Observed utensils (spatulas) stored in dirty still water at room temp, and a bowl with no handle stored in sugar. CA: PIC washed/sanitize the spatulas and removed the bowl out of the sugar. Corrected On-Site. Repeat Violation.

Violation of Code: [511-6-1.05(6)(a)]
Observed the door to the prep top/reach in cooler unit fall off the hinges. RCA: Good Repair and Proper Adjustment. Equipment shall be maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the requirements specified under subsections (1) and (2)of this Rule. Equipment components such as doors, seals, hinges, fasteners, and kick plates shall be kept intact, tight, and adjusted in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. New Violation. Violation of Code: [511-6-1.06(1)(g),(h)]
Observed water not able to meet peak hot water demands throughout the facility. The max water temperature at the three compartment sink (chlorine sanitizer) was 85F. CA: PIC called maintenance to fix the water heater. 2. Hot water generation and distribution systems shall be sufficient to meet the peak hot water demands throughout the food service establishment. Violation of Code: [511-6-1.07(4)(b)]
Observed personal items scattered throughout the facility (cell phone on prep table, car keys on top of freezer). CA: Items were removed. Items were removed. CA: Areas designated for employees to eat, drink, and use tobacco shall be located so that food, equipment, linens, and single-service and single-use articles are protected from contamination. Lockers or other suitable facilities shall be located in a designated room or area where contamination of food, equipment, utensils, linens and single-service and single-use articles cannot occur.
