Best Wings, located at 10722 Eagle Drive in Covington, received a score of 74 points out of a possible 100 points during their 02/02/2023 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation #1
2-2B: .03(5)(j)1&2Observed employee eating cut melon while walking through the kitchen. Employees shall consume food and drink only in approved designated areas separate from food preparation and serving areas, equipment or utensil areas and food storage areas (unless drinking from a single service beverage cup with a secure lid and straw that is handled to prevent contamination of the employee’s hands, the container, exposed food, clean equipment, utensils and linens, unwrapped single-service and single-use articles). (C)
Corrective Actions: Educated PIC and employee on designated area to eat.

Violation #2
4-1A: .04(4)(c)1(i)(ii)(iii)(v) (vi)(vii)(viii)Observed a floor chest cooler with raw chicken breast, breaded chicken tenders, crawfish, breaded shrimp, raw shrimp stored together. Raw, unpackaged animal food, such as beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and fish may not be offered for consumer self-service. (P) This paragraph does not apply to: (i) Consumer self-service of ready-to-eat foods at buffets or salad bars that serve foods such as sushi or raw shellfish; (ii) Ready-to-cook individual portions for immediate cooking and consumption on the premises such as consumer-cooked meats or consumer-selected ingredients for Mongolian barbecue; or (iii) Raw, frozen, shell-on shrimp, or lobster.
Corrective Actions: All seafood was removed from chest cooler.

Violation #3
6-1D: .04(6)(i)Observed chicken wings on time control with no end time marked. When using Time Control (TPHC) for a maximum of 4 hours: 1) hot foods shall start at 135°F (57°C) or above and cold foods shall start at 41°F (5°C) or below; (P) 2) the food items shall be labeled with a start and discard time, not to exceed 4 hours; (Pf) 3) foods not consumed before the discard time shall be discarded; (P) 4) when combining ingredients, the start/discard time for the foods shall reflect the start/discard time of the earliest ingredient placed on time control; {P) 5) food in unmarked containers or packages, or marked to exceed a 4-hour limit shall be discarded; (P) 6) written procedures TPHC shall be created in advance and made available upon the Health Authorities request. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Education PIC on time control. Provided another time control procedures.

Violation #4
12A: .04(4)(q)Observed a open box of french fries stored directly on the floor. Food shall be protected from contamination by storing the food: 1) in a clean dry location; (C) 2) where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination; (C) and 3) at least 6 inches (15 cm) above the floor. (C)
Corrective Actions: French fries were moved to the chest cooler.

Violation #5
17C: .07(5)(a),(b) 1,2,3Observed major grease nd old food debris accumulations behind and under fryer, stove, and grill. Also observed cob webs on the pipes behind the stove. All physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair and shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean and by methods that prevent contamination of food products. (C)
