La Playita Restaurant, located at 532 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville, received a score of 69 points out of a possible 100 points during their 10/20/2022 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation #1
1-2A: .03(2)Person in charge not present during inspection. There must be a person in charge on the premises of the food service establishment at all times. (Pf)
Violation #2
1-2A: .03(2)(a)-(l), (n)Due to today’s unsatisfactory score. Facility lacks managerial control. It is the responsibility of the person in charge to ensure compliance with the food code by demonstrating active managerial control within their facility. (Pf)
Violation #3
2-2A: .03(2)(m)Employee could not provided proof employee health policy in a verifiable manner. // Food employees and conditional employees shall be informed in a verifiable manner of their responsibility to report to the person in charge information about their health and activities as they relate to diseases that are transmissible through food. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Employee signed employee health policy. //
Violation #4
2-2A: .03(1)(c)2,3,17Employee was not knowledgeable in the employee health policy. // Person in charge shall explain their responsibility for preventing the transmission of foodborne disease by a food employee who has a disease or medical condition that may cause foodborne disease and can describe the symptoms associated with the diseases that are transmissible through food. They also shall be able to explain how food employees and conditional employees comply with reporting responsibilities and exclusion or restriction of food employees. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Onsite training on employee health policy was corrected. //

2-2B: .03(5)(j)1&2Observe one water bottle in a unapproved drinking container sitting on top of the prep table. // Employees shall consume food and drink only in approved designated areas separate from food preparation and serving areas, equipment or utensil areas and food storage areas (unless drinking from a single service beverage cup with a secure lid and straw that is handled to prevent contamination of the employee’s hands, the container, exposed food, clean equipment, utensils and linens, unwrapped single-service and single-use articles). Corrective Actions: Water bottle was remove from prep area. Train on authorized drink container in food prep areas. //
Violation #6
2-2D: .06(2)(o)Hand wash sink was obstructed by metal food container. The water valve was not turned on. Handwashing sink does not supply hot water constantly. // A handwashing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use. (Pf)
Corrective Actions: Employee removed metal food container and turn water valve on. //
Violation #7
2-2E: .03(6)Vomit/diarrhea cleaning up kit was not available during inspection A food establishment shall have procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food service establishment. The procedures shall address the specific actions employees must take to minimize the spread of contamination and the exposure of employees, consumers, food, and surfaces to vomitus or fecal matter. 6-1A: .04(6)(f)Observe multiple food items: cheese, cream, red salsa, green salsa, butter stored above 41oF. // Time/temperature control for safety food shall be maintained at 41°F (5°C) or below. (P)

6-2: .04(6)(g)Observe cheese, red & green salsa without a date marking in the prep cooler being held longer than 24 hours. // Refrigerated, ready-to-eat time/temperature control for safety foods prepared and held in a food establishment for more than 24-hours shall be clearly marked to indicate the date of prep or the date by with the food shall be used/discarded for a maximum of 7 days. The day of preparation shall be counted as Day 1. (Pf)

6-2: .04(6)(h)Observed chicken tacos (flautas) and cabbage stored in reach in cooler longer than their discard date. // A food that requires datemarking shall be discarded if it is appropriately marked with a date or day that exceeds 7 days. (P)

8-2B: .07(6)(e)Observed three residential pesticide containers store in dry storage area // Poisonous or toxic materials shall be used according to: (i) Law; (ii) Manufacturer’s use directions included in labeling, and, for a pesticide, manufacturer’s label instructions that state that use is allowed in a food service establishment, (P) (iii) The conditions of certification, if certification is required, for use of the pest control materials. (P)

17A: .06(5)(h)Women’s restrooms does not have trash can with lid. // A toilet room used by females shall be provided with a covered receptacle for sanitary napkins. (C)

17A: .07(2)(l)Men’s and Women’s restroom do not self close. Men restroom door is broken. // Except where a toilet room is located outside a food service establishment and does not open directly into the food service establishment, such as a toilet room that is provided by the management of a shopping mall, a toilet room located on the premises shall be completely enclosed and provided with a tight-fitting and self-closing door. (C)

18: .07(2)(m)Back door to the facility does not self close. There is light passing through bottom of the door. // Outer openings of a food service establishment shall be protected against the entry of insects and rodents by: 1) filling or closing holes and other gaps along floors, walls, and ceilings; (C) 2) closed, tight-fitting windows; (C) and 3) solid self-closing, tight-fitting doors. (C)

18: .07(5)(k)Observed live pest throughout the facility, in the prep cooler, around the door of the mechanical room, on the floors, and prep shelves. // The presence of insects, rodents, and other pests shall be controlled to minimize their presence on the premises by: 1. Routinely inspecting incoming shipments of food and supplies; (C) 2. Routinely inspecting the premises for evidence of pests; (C) 3. Using methods, if pests are found, such as trapping devices or other means of pest control as specified under subsections (6)(e), (6)(m), and (6)(n) of this Rule; (Pf) and 4.
