Mr. Egg Roll in Cartersville receives a 40% on their recent health inspection

Mr. Egg Roll, located at 267 C Cassville Road in Cartersville, received a score of 40 points out of a possible 100 points during their 10/22/2025 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Inspector Notes: Observed PIC lacking knowledge of foodborne illness risk factors. CA: PIC knowledge can be demonstrated by having no violations of Priority Items during routine inspections. CA: Employees need to be trained/re-trained.

Inspector Notes: Observed certified food safety manager not fulfilling duties; unable to assess training needs of employees. CA: The responsibility of the CFSM shall include the safety of food preparation and service by ensuring that all employees who handle, or have responsibility for handling, unpackaged foods of any kind, have sufficient knowledge of safe preparation and service of the food. The nature and extent of the knowledge that each employee is required to have may be tailored, as appropriate, to the employee’s duties related to food safety issues. COS: Re-train CFSM. Health dept training offered.

Inspector Notes: Observed employee handle personal items, touch face, then continue cooking chicken on the stove. Observed employees put on hats and touch hair, then put gloves on to handle food without first washing hands. CA: Food employees shall clean their hands and exposed portions of their arms immediately before engaging in food preparation after touching bare human body parts other than clean hands and clean, exposed arms and after engaging in other activities that contaminate the hands. CA: Employees all washed hands before proceeding further with food handling.

Inspector Notes: Observed hand was sink blocked; head of lettuce and cloth towel stored in the basin. CA: Hand washing sinks shall be used for hand washing only and must be fully stocked and accessible at all times. COS: Employee removed items from the hand sink. Lettuce will be re-washed in the sink designated for washing produce.

Inspector Notes: Observed cans with dents in the seals. CA: Food packages shall be in good condition and protect the integrity of the contents so that the food is not exposed to adulteration or potential contaminants. Hermitically sealed cans with major dents in the sides or any sized dent in the seal should be separated out and returned or discarded. COS: PIC removed them from the dry storage shelf and marked them for return to the supplier.

Inspector Notes: Observed pan of raw eggs stored above opened containers of ready-to-eat produce in the reach-in cooler. Observed raw chicken stored above oil on the prep table. CA: CA: Food shall be protected from cross-contamination by separating raw animal foods during storage, preparation, and holding from ready-to-eat foods. COS: PIC relocated foods so they were stored by internal cook temp.

Inspector Notes: Observed pans of food throughout the kitchen (on countertops and in coolers and freezers) stored without a lid or cover while not in use. Observed flies landing on open containers of food. CA: Food shall be stored covered to prevent overhead contamination. COS: PIC covered all pans of food.

Inspector Notes: Observed improper cold holding of potentially hazardous TCS foods (cooked chicken, raw chicken, cupped sweet and sour sauce, cooked noodles) stored on the counter top. See temp log. CA: Cold held TCS foods shall maintain an internal temperature of at least 41F or lower. COS: PIC stated foods were out of temp for less than 4 hours and were moved to coolers to rapidly cool.

Inspector Notes: Observed improper hot holding of potentially hazardous TCS foods (egg rolls, spring rolls, cooked chicken) stored on the counter top. CA: Hot held TCS foods shall maintain an internal temperature of at least 135F or higher. COS: PIC chose to discard spring rolls and eggs rolls. Chicken was rapidly reheated to 170F.

Inspector Notes: Observed cooked chicken wings not properly cooled from 135F to 70F within 2 hours. At 1:30pm wings were temping at 75F. Per PIC, wings started cooling at 11am. Observed house made General Tso sauce at 75F after cooling for more than 2 hours. CA: Cooked time/temperature control for safety food shall be cooled within 2 hours from 135°F (57°C) to 70°F (21°C). CA: PIC discarded wings and sauce.

Inspector Notes: Observed spray bottles of toxic items with no labels. CA: Working containers used for storing poisonous or toxic materials such as cleaners and sanitizers taken from bulk supplies shall be clearly and individually identified with the common name of the material. COS: PIC labelled bottles.

Inspector Notes: Observed several bottles of employee personal medication stored on dry storage shelf in direct contact with food and stored above food. CA: Medicines that are in a food service establishment for the employee’s use shall be located to prevent the contamination of food, equipment, utensils, linens, and single-service and single-use articles. COS: PIC chose to throw some bottles away and some were relocated to employee storage area.

Inspector Notes: Observed back door propped open. At the end of the inspection, the back door was propped open again with a cement block to keep it from closing. PIC stated their screen door was removed and they haven’t had time to put it back on the doorframe. CA: outer openings of a food service establishment shall be protected against the entry of insects and rodents by solid, self-closing, tight fitting doors. COS: Facility must keep back door closed until screen door is re-installed.

Inspector Notes: Observed heavy live fly activity in the kitchen. PIC stated they self treat for pests and do not have a contract with a licensed pest control company. CA: Poisonous or toxic materials shall be used according to the conditions of certification for use of pest control materials. COS: PIC will send health dept invoice for treatment from a licensed pest control company.

Date marking, TPHC procedures, where to wash produce, where to wash hands, proper food storage containers (no cardboard), scoops (with a handle, no single-use items), food stored off the floor, hair restraints, how to use 3-comp sink, wet stacking, storage of wet sani rags, use of dry rags, storage of personal food, employee personal drinks (single-use cup with lid and straw, not stored with restaurant food), self-closure on bathroom door.
