Papa John’s in Decatur receives a 62% on their recent health inspection

Papa John’s, located at 3653 Flakes Mill Road, Suite C in Decatur, received a score of 62 points out of a possible 100 points during their 10/09/2025 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation #1:
1-2B – certified food protection manager

Inspector Notes: CA: Responding To Contamination Events. A food establishment shall have written procedures for employees to follow and an EPA registered disinfectant effective against Norovirus available on-site at the food service establishment when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events that involve the discharge of vomitus or fecal matter onto surfaces in the food service establishment. The procedures shall address the specific actions employees must take to minimize the spread of contamination and the exposure of employees, consumers, food, and surfaces to vomitus or fecal matter. Observation: Observed no chemical for Vomiting and diarrheal events. Discussed with PIC to have and EPA registered disinfectant that’s effective against NOROVIRUS at the establishment by 10-13-25.

Except during preparation, cooking, or cooling, or when time is used as the public health control, time/temperature control for safety food shall be maintained at 41°F (5°C) or below. OBSERVATION: TCS products (See*) in the make line cooler are holding above 41F and were holding since COB 10-8-15. COS- TCS products were discarded. Ice was purchased and products from the WIC were placed on ice at the make line.

Observation: Most recent inspection report was observed not posted for public view, the report from 1-19-23 was posted. Void was written on inspection reports from 1-19-23 and 8-5-21.

OBSERVATION: Plastic containers stored on the drying rack/drainboard of the manual wash sink stacked while still wet. Discussed with PIC to ensure that clean food containers are allowed to air dry before stacking.

Equipment shall be maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the requirements specified under subsections (1) and (2)of this Rule OBSERVATION: the make line cooler is not in proper working condition, allowing the TCS products to hold above 41F. Water is pooling in the bottom portion of the unit. An emergency order is being submitted for the unit to be repaired.

PIC was instructed to have corrected by 10/13/2025.

Additional remarks:
2 bins of pizza sauce were observed with time markings and were under 85F.
Discussed with the managers to use ice and to monitor the tcs products on the make line to ensure that they are holding at 41F or below.
511-6-1-.10 Compliance Procedures: (o) (1) Voluntary Closure. A food service establishment that is graded as a “U” and does not earn at least a grade “C” within ten (10) days of receiving the “U” will be requested to voluntarily close until all violations are corrected and/or have enforcement action taken to suspend or revoke the food service permit.
511-6-1-.10 Compliance Procedures: (o) (2) Voluntary Closure. A food service establishment that is graded as a “U” on two consecutive routine inspections will be asked to voluntarily close until all violations are corrected and/or have enforcement action taken to suspend or revoke the food service permit.
Food handler with long, polished nails was observed wearing gloves.
Follow-up will be conducted on or before 10-19-25.
