US Deli in Atlanta receives a 70% on their recent health inspection

US Deli, located at 902 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway North West Suite A in Atlanta, received a score of 70 points out of a possible 100 points during their 03/14/2023 inspection by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The violations noted by the inspector were:

Violation #1
4-1A – food separated and protected

Inspector Notes: Observed raw fish stored directly next to raw chicken in reach in cooler. Except when combined as ingredients, separating types of raw animal foods from each other such as beef, fish, lamb, pork, and poultry during storage, preparation, holding, and display by: (I) Using separate equipment for each type, P or (II) Arranging each type of food in equipment so that cross contamination of one type with another is prevented. PIC seperated the fish from the chicken.

Inspector Notes: Observed buckets of chicken stored in the reach in cooler without lids or covering of any kind. Observed pans of food stored in reach in without any coverings. Except as specified under paragraph 2. of this subsection and when cooling as specified in DPH Rule 511-6-1-.04(6)(e)2.(ii), storing the food in packages, covered containers, or wrappings, except for loosely covered or uncovered containers in which food is being cooled if protected from overhead contamination. PIC will cover all food.

Inspector Notes: Observed chicken being held at room temperature. Observed shrimp and egg wash being held in prep top cooler above 41 degrees. ime/Temperature Control for Safety Food, Hot and Cold Holding. Except during preparation, cooking, or cooling, or when time is used as the public health control, time/temperature control for safety food shall be maintained at 41°F (5°C) or below or 135°F (57°C) or above, except that roasts cooked to a temperature and for a time specified in subsection (5)(a)2 of this Rule and reheated using the same temperature and time conditions as cooking may be held at a temperature of 130°F (54°C) or above. Instructed PIC to dispose of these items.

Inspector Notes: Observed chicken being hot held in the fryer basket over the fryer. This chicken temped at 90. Time/Temperature Control for Safety Food, Hot and Cold Holding. Except during preparation, cooking, or cooling, or when time is used as the public health control, time/temperature control for safety food shall be maintained at 41°F (5°C) or below or 135°F (57°C) or above, except that roasts cooked to a temperature and for a time specified in subsection (5)(a)2 of this Rule and reheated using the same temperature and time conditions as cooking may be held at a temperature of 130°F (54°C) or above. Instructed PIC to discard of this food.

Inspector Notes: Observed no food stored with labels in any of the reach in or prep top coolers. Except when packaging food using a reduced oxygen packaging method, and except as specified in paragraphs 4 and 5 of this subsection, refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared and held in a food establishment for more than 24 hours shall be clearly marked to indicate the date or day by which the food shall be consumed on the premises, sold, or discarded, when held at a temperature of 41°F (5°C) or below for a maximum of 7 days. The day of preparation shall be counted as Day 1. PIC will label all food items.

17B – garbage/refuse properly disposed; facilities maintained

Inspector Notes: Observed buildup of garbage surrounding dumpsters, spilling out on to sidewalk and creating a large pile surrounding all sides. Frequency. Refuse, recyclables, and returnables shall be removed from the premises at a frequency that will minimize the development of objectionable odors and other conditions that attract or harbor insects and rodents. PIC will remove garbage from dumpster.

18 – insects, rodents, and animals not present

Inspector Notes: Observed kitchen filled with fruit flies. Controlling Pests. The presence of insects, rodents, and other pests shall be controlled to minimize their presence on the premises by: 1. Routinely inspecting incoming shipments of food and supplies; 2. Routinely inspecting the premises for evidence of pests; 3. Using methods, if pests are found, such as trapping devices or other means of pest control as specified under subsections (6)(e), (6)(m), and (6)(n) of this Rule; Pf and 4.Eliminating harborage conditions. PIC will obtain pest control.
