On 01/01/2026 at approximately 1955 hours, I, Officer Prescott with the McDonough Police Department, responded to [1200 BLOCK] Polk Xing, McDonough, Henry County, Georgia, in reference to an assault involving a juvenile. This incident has been closed by arrest.

The call originated from a nurse at Piedmont Henry Hospital, who reported a juvenile had arrived at the emergency room with visible scratches to the neck area and difficulty breathing. The nurse advised that the juvenile and his mother reported the juvenile had been choked by his grandfather, identified as Bobby Thompkins.

I first responded to the residence where the incident reportedly occurred and made contact with Bobby Thompkins. Thompkins stated he was downstairs when he heard yelling from upstairs and was advised by his granddaughters that his grandson, [REDACTED BY AGENCY], had kicked his mother. Thompkins stated he went upstairs to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] bedroom, where [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had locked the door and refused to open it. After requesting entry multiple times, Thompkins stated he kicked the door open, despite a key being available, citing concern over the situation.

Thompkins stated that upon entry, [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was positioned behind the door attempting to push it closed. Thompkins stated he forced the door open and that a verbal confrontation ensued. Thompkins further stated that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] lunged toward him, and during the interaction he began to lose balance and grabbed [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in an attempt to steady himself. Thompkins stated his wife entered the room shortly thereafter and physically pulled him away.

I spoke with the juvenile’s sister, who stated she did not witness the physical altercation but heard yelling and commotion.

I then responded to Piedmont Henry Hospital and made contact with [REDACTED BY AGENCY] his mother, [WITNESS #1], and the grandmother. I also spoke with the reporting nurse, who stated she was advised by the mother that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had been choked and punched in the shoulder. The nurse advised that medical staff photographed the juvenile’s injuries for documentation.

[WITNESS #1] stated that upon entering the room, she observed her father standing over [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in an aggressive posture and believed he was about to strike him again. She stated her father told her [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had hit him and that he would not tolerate such behavior. [WITNESS #1] stated that her mother then entered the room and pulled her husband away to prevent further injury. The grandmother provided a consistent account.

[REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated that his grandfather entered the room, punched him in the shoulder, and that after he tripped and fell to the ground, his grandfather grabbed him by the throat and applied pressure, restricting his breathing. [REDACTED BY AGENCY] stated no one else was present in the room during this portion of the incident.

The mother, grandmother, and juvenile all stated that Thompkins did not have a history of prior violence toward the grandchildren.

After completing interviews and reviewing the totality of the circumstances, including the juvenile’s reported injuries and consistent statements, I returned to the residence and placed Bobby Thompkins under arrest.

Thompkins was handcuffed with his hands behind his back. The handcuffs were checked for proper fit and double-locked. Thompkins exhibited no visible injuries and made no complaints related to the handcuffing process. A back seat check of my patrol vehicle was conducted prior to and after transport, with no contraband or issues noted. Thompkins appeared calm and comfortable during transport.

Thompkins was transported to the Henry County Jail and released to jail staff without incident.
