On 5/25/26 at 1120 we received a lookout for a stolen vehicle. The 2009 Toyota Camry [REDACTED] was stolen in Stockbridge and Stockbridge Police were tracking the vehicle utilizing Flock Cameras. We were notified that the the vehicle was entering Locust Grove City Limits on Bill Gardner Parkway. I was in the area and started searching for the Camry.
I was traveling west on Bill Gardner Parkway when I saw a Camry stopped at the traffic signal at I-75 South. When I passed the vehicle I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a partial license plate. I made a u-turn to better identify the vehicle. When I pulled into the median I confirmed the license plate matched the information we were provided by dispatch.
I waited for the light to cycle and pulled in behind the vehicle as we traveled east on Bill Gardner Parkway. I activated my emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle sped up and started to flee. I notified dispatch of the active vehicle pursuit. Cpl. C. James of the Georgia State Patrol joined the pursuit as we crossed under I-75. We came upon heavy traffic at the intersection of Market Place Boulevard and Cpl. James took over the primary pursuit position.
The vehicle continued east towards GA-42. Cpl. James was able to move into a position so that he could end the pursuit. He performed the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), which forced the vehicle from the roadway and into the tree line near Radioactive. The driver who was later identified as Izaiah Sloan, exited the vehicle ran into the wood line. He was apprehended by Officer Burnett after a brief foot pursuit. Sloan was cuffed to the rear and the cuffs were double locked and checked for proper fit before being put into a patrol vehicle. Sloan had some minor scratches sustained from running through briars. A GCIC/NCIC check of Sloan revealed that his driver’s license was suspended on 8/2/2022 for failure to appear.
The vehicle did sustain extensive damage from striking a tree. The Georgia State Patrol conducted an accident investigation secondary to the PIT maneuver.
The vehicle was confirmed as stolen. Corner Lot Towing responded to the scene and removed the vehicle from the scene. Sloan was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and obstruction of law enforcement.
Officer Burnett transported Sloan to the Henry County Jail and released him to jail staff. I completed arrest warrant applications for the above referenced charges.
I attempted to contact the vehicle’s owner, [VICTIM #1] by phone but was unsucessful.
A copy of this report was forwarded to Henry County Communications for the stolen vehicle recovery.
