HENRY COUNTY, Ga. – On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, a group of lucky children in Henry County delighted in shopping sprees at Academy Sports, which were awarded by the store, the sheriff’s office, and the legendary Shaquille O’Neal. Officials granted each of the 20 children $250 for items at the sports establishment.

In addition to participating in the shopping spree event, Academy Sports donated valuable equipment utilized during a summer camp hosted by the former professional basketball player and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a post from Director of Community Relations O’Neal and 29th Sheriff of Henry County Reginald B. Scandrett, the Sports Spectacular Summer Camp ran from June 25 to June 27 at Woodland High School in Stockbridge and included middle and high school students. The camp experience cost $65 per day or $150 for the complete three-day package and featured baseball, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, flag football, football, and volleyball.

Shaq was born in Newark, New Jersey, but owns residential property in Atlanta and has spent considerable time in The Peach State. He is currently a sports analyst on the television show Inside the NBA.
