On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, I was assigned to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Traffic Division. I was wearing an assigned uniform from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office with the badge clearly displayed and driving a marked Patrol vehicle unit #962. I was assisting patrol and answering calls for service when I was advised a possible rolling domestic was near the Sheriff’s Office.
FIRST OBSERVATIONS:
At approximately 0830 hours, dispatch advised they had received a call for a possible rolling domestic between a male and a female in a silver Hyundai. Dispatch advised the caller stated the vehicle was traveling North on Houston Lake Rd and was approaching Feagin Mill Rd when the caller last saw them. A short time later, dispatch advised Warner Robins Police Department (WRPD) had located the vehicle at Russell Parkway and Carl Vinson Parkway and conducted a traffic stop.
Ofc. Whilden with WRPD advised the vehicle ran out of gas at the intersection and he was attempting to get it out of the roadway. I advised dispatch I was at the office and would be enroute to assist and speak with the parties involved. When I arrived on scene, Avery York was outside the vehicle, appeared to be worked up, face was red and was flaring his arms around and getting in and out of the vehicle.
I stopped next to the driver’s side of the vehicle and Amelia McCauley stated she remembered me and appeared to be slightly out of breath and had some redness to her face as well. To keep traffic flowing and get them out of the roadway to be able to speak with them. Ofc. Whilden and I assisted them with getting their vehicle to the Department of Drivers Service parking lot.
OBSERVATIONS AFTER STOP:
After getting Amelia and Avery to the parking lot, I had Avery speak with Ofc. Whilden and I spoke with Amelia. Amelia stated there had been nothing physical between the two and they were going through tough times and were just arguing on the way to a court hearing with Juvenile. I asked Amelia what started the argument and she stated another female. Amelia went on to state she told Avery they just needed not to speak to each other and get to court and figure everything else out later. Amelia stated they were currently living out of the car and did not really have time away from each other.
When I spoke to Avery, he stated they were just arguing and things were fine. Avery also stated to Ofc. Whilden things were not physical between the two of them. With Avery and Ameila trying to get to juvenile court and already late, I advised dispatch I would be getting them to the juvenile building. After getting them to court, I advised Amelia I would speak with the case worker and let her know they had run out of gas after an argument and we had to help them get to court.
Amelia and Avery checked in and began to fill out paperwork, and I spoke to [WITNESS #1], the case worker. [WITNESS #1] asked if I noticed any marks or bruised on Amelia when I spoke with her and I stated no bruising. I asked [WITNESS #1] why and she stated Amelia had called her therapist and stated Avery was beating on her and would not stop. I advised [WITNESS #1] that the story I received was very different and I would speak with them again. While Avery and Amelia continued to fill out paperwork, I called the witness, [WITNESS #2].
[WITNESS #2] stated she was scared to call but when the altercation escalated and her car almost got hit, she knew she had to do something. [WITNESS #2] stated she noticed Avery and Amelia as they were driving North on Houston Lake Dr and the vehicle was all over the road. [WITNESS #2] stated it appeared that Avery kept snatching the steering wheel while Amelia was driving and causing her to drive recklessly. [WITNESS #2] stated this continued until they stopped at the red light at Cohen Walker Dr.
[WITNESS #2] stated this was when she observed things get drastically worse and the two began to punch each other repeatedly in the face and upper body. [WITNESS #2] stated at one point, Amelia hit Avery so hard he fell back against the car door, and his head came out the open window. [WITNESS #2] stated she was licensed in the prison system for many years and this was one of the worst altercations she had seen in a while. I thanked [WITNESS #2] for her time and calling and advised her we were out with the subjects.
I separated Avery and Amelia and spoke with them further about the altercation. I started with Amelia and asked her to tell me what happened as I had a witness that gave a very different encounter of the situation. Amelia stated things were not physical between her and Avery, but he did grab the steering wheel several times while she was driving. I asked Amelia why Avery would snatch the wheel and she stated maybe because he was mad that she was confronting him with the girl, but she really didn’t know.
I asked Amelia when Avery was snatching the wheel what was going through her mind, and she stated she was scared. I asked Amelia why she was scared and she stated she thought the car was going to wreck and possibly get hurt. I asked Amelia again about the two of them hitting each other and she only stated she was pushing him off her.
I spoke with Avery and asked him about the incident further. Avery stated the two of them were arguing and he knew they needed to separate. I asked Avery about them hitting each other and he stated they pushed each other but weren’t hitting each other. I asked Avery why he would snatch the steering wheel and he stated to scare Amelia, that was all. Avery stated he just wanted to scare her so she would stop arguing with him. Avery stated he was speaking with Amelia’s sister while waiting on court, and they agreed the two needed to separate from each other and Avery just needed to go to his mom’s.
After all the physical and testimonial evidence, I placed Avery and Amelia in custody. Both were handcuffed to the rear, checked for fit, and double locked for safety. Lt. Labny assisted with getting Avery to a patrol vehicle and I walked Amelia to a patrol vehicle. Amelia was placed in the rear of my patrol vehicle and transported to the Houston County Detention Center. Avery was placed in the rear of Dep. Treadway’s patrol vehicle and transported to the Houston County Detention Center.
VEHICLE:
The vehicle was left secured in the parking lot.
CONCLUSION:
Avery was booked into the Houston County Detention Center for Aggravated Assault and Battery. Amelia was booked into the Houston County Detention Center for Battery.
