On January 17th, 2025 at approximately 0900 hours I, Deputy C. Nelson, was on duty with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office as a School Resource Officer. I was wearing the uniform of the day with my badge clearly displayed on my chest. I was one of the acting School Resource Officers for Warner Robins High School when I was advised of an incident that occurred with a juvenile student.
On the above time and date I was located on the D-hall of the main campus when I received an anonymous tip that a student, Jibril Wheeler, made the comment that he had a .38 caliber pistol in his waistband while in Mr. [REDACTED]’s classroom. Once I received the tip I made contact with Assistant Principal [WITNESS #1] and Assistant Principal [REDACTED] and requested they make contact with me in the V-building which is the location of Mr. [REDACTED]’s classroom.
Once in the V-building, Mr. [WITNESS #1] and Deputy Durham entered in the classroom and escorted Jibril to Mr. [WITNESS #1]’s office. Jibril’s bookbag was turned over to Mr. [WITNESS #1] and due to the severity of the tip I conducted a pat down on Jibril’s person. During the pat down I felt a hard object that I knew to be pistol in his right waistband. I instructed Jibril to not move and not to reach as I lifted his hoodie and located a black in color pistol in his waistband. I then handed the pistol over to Mr. [WITNESS #1] who was located behind me, Jibril was immediately placed in custody. A search incident to arrest was conducted with negative results in locating any other type of weapons or illegal items.
The pistol was a Springfield Armory XD .9mm (serial number BF366306). The pistol was loaded with a silver in color Springfield Armory magazine with 16 rounds of .9mm ammunition inside of it. The pistol was not loaded with a round in the chamber. The serial number was checked through Houston County 911 and it was not reported as stolen.
Sgt. Weldon responded to the school and was briefed on this incident. Jibril was turned over to Sgt. Weldon for transport to the Detention Center for processing. Jibril was charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds – felony. The pistol was turned into the evidence room at the Sheriff’s Office.
I will be signing a warrant through Magistrate Court for the above charge.
