BACKGROUND:
On the above time and date, I was working for the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. I was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division dedicated to the ICE unit. I was driving a marked law enforcement vehicle and wearing assigned uniform with my badge displayed. I was working traffic enforcement on I-75.
OBSERVATIONS BEFORE TRAFFIC STOP:
I observed at black motorcycle traveling south at an extremely fast The motorcycle was passing other cars on the interstate at what appeared to be double their speed. I checked the motorcycle with my laser at 129 MPH in a 70 MPH zone.
I caught up to the motorcycle near the county line entering into Dooly County. I followed the motorcycle attempting to get the tag number, but the tag was bent up facing the ground concealing the motorcycle tag. Once I caught up to the motorcycle, it was traveling about 145 MPH and weaving through traffic. Once a clear area of the interstate was available, I pulled in front of the motorcycle and slowed him down. He then pulled to the shoulder and stopped.
OBSERVATIONS AFTER TRAFFIC STOP:
I ordered the driver to turn off the motorcycle, get off the motorcycle, take off his helmet and book bag, and then I placed him under arrest and put him in handcuffs with no incident. I checked the handcuffs for tightness and double locked the handcuffs. I called for Sgt. Broome to be in route for transport. The driver, identified as Jonathan Slaton, stated he was on his way to see a suicidal friend.
I searched Slaton search incident to arrest. In his book back was clothing and a 10mm Glock handgun. Slaton stated he did not see my patrol car following him. Slaton did not have a motorcycle license or permit on his person or according to his license record.
Sgt. Broome arrived for transport. The motorcycle was removed by the on call wrecker (Road Runner Towing), and Sgt. Broome transported Slaton to the Houston County Jail where he was turned over to booking.
