On 09/28/25 I, Dep Kelley was dispatched to [100 BLOCK] Juniper Rd. in reference to a domestic. The caller advised her mom punched her in the face.

Upon arrival, I spoke with [VICTIM #1] first. I am familiar with [VICTIM #1] and her daughter, Kathryn Campbell, from a previous domestic I responded to in June (25-13397). [VICTIM #1] advised the following; her daughter, Kathryn, constantly harasses her and attacks her. Tonight Kathryn started throwing punches at her so she decided for the first time ever, she would hit back. She took one swing at Kathryn making contact with her face.

While trying to talk to [VICTIM #1], Kathryn kept coming to the top of the stairs yelling back and fourth with [VICTIM #1]. Kathryn also yelled multiple times at deputies saying she tore her meniscus and ACL and we would need to come upstairs to talk to her. At one point Kathryn was screaming at me and told me to come upstairs, I said I was not coming upstairs, and Kathryn threw her phone down the stairs toward me. Kathryn stomped around upstairs slamming doors and continuing to yell. Kathryn then walked down the stairs and slammed the front door closed.

I was waiting for a back up unit to arrive that could help transport and keep both parties separated. [VICTIM #1]’s initial story was just that she and Kathryn both hit each other so initially, I was going to arrest both of them. [VICTIM #1] is very elderly and can’t walk without assistance so we allowed her to go back into the residence to get a cane to assist with mobility getting to and from my patrol vehicle.

Once inside the residence, [VICTIM #1] was trying to locate her glasses and cane. [VICTIM #1] stated she took her glasses off when Kathryn started attacking her because she just bought the glasses and did not want them to break. As [VICTIM #1] was searching for her glasses, I observed a piece of wood lodged into the wall above the couch where she was sitting. [VICTIM #1] then picked up a broken hammer and was shocked to see Kathryn had thrown the hammer at her and the hammer broke.

I was confused since [VICTIM #1] did not mention this before so I asked for more information. [VICTIM #1] advised when Kathryn starts attacking her, she always takes her glasses off for fear her glasses will break. She is unable to see what Kathryn is throwing at her since she takes off her glasses but said Kathryn will throw everything within reach during her fits of rage.

Now that I was making sense of the incident, I realized the wood lodged into the wall above the couch was the split off half of the hammer handle. [VICTIM #1] even said Kathryn stated something like, “I wasn’t trying to hit you with it, I was just throwing things at you.” I picked up the hammer, which had been split and the piece still attached to the hammer head was very sharp like a spear. Knowing this new information, I decided it was clear Kathryn was the predominant physical aggressor. I advised [VICTIM #1] she was not going to be arrested and I was only arresting Kathryn at this time.

The hammer had landed near where [VICTIM #1] was sitting and the piece lodged into the wall was just a couple feet above her head. If either of those pieces hit [VICTIM #1] in the face or eye, it could have caused serious bodily harm or death. Seeing [VICTIM #1]’s difficulty walking, I knew it was highly unlikely that she could throw a hammer with such force to split the hammer and lodge a piece into the wall.

I knocked on Kathryn’s bedroom door and she advised [VICTIM #1] punched her in the eye. Kathryn did not have any visible injuries to her face. Kathryn stated she asked [VICTIM #1] what she wanted to eat which is why [VICTIM #1] punched her in the eye. [VICTIM #1] had told me earlier that Kathryn asked to go get dinner so she took her to get dinner. I asked why Kathryn was asking [VICTIM #1] what she wanted to eat if they already ate. Kathryn said they had eaten 2 hours prior.

I was still confused since they already ate dinner. Kathryn then said she was asking her if she wanted to eat a snack. It was clear Kathryn was not being honest so I asked how the hammer ended up in the wall and she began stuttering, her voice got louder, and she kept repeating herself saying it was not her. I told Kathryn she needed to come with me and she stood up to put a pair of pants on and began screaming at her mom, “Thanks mom you just put me in jail for life.” The pants had a small folded pocket knife clipped onto the waistband.

I took a step closer to Kathryn to remove the knife but she had already grabbed it off her pants and had it in her hand. I could see Kathryn attempting to conceal her hand behind her back with the knife still in her grasp. I grabbed her wrist and removed the knife from her hand. Kathryn continued to resist and yelled profanities at deputies like “give me my f*cking crutch” and “give me my f*cking phone”.

Kathryn snatched away multiple times while deputies tried getting her to exit the house on her own free will using the aid of her crutches. It was clear Kathryn was not going to walk out on her own so deputies grabbed both arms and walked her down the stairs before hand cuffing her outside. While walking out of the residence Kathryn yelled to me, “Thanks you f*cking b*tch.”

Kathryn was placed in custody and placed in the back of my patrol car then seat belted. I took photographs of the hammer and the piece lodged in the wall. I advised [VICTIM #1] that Kathryn was going to jail and she would be required to sign a conditional bond for no contact once she is released. I informed [VICTIM #1] that if Kathryn returned without a law enforcement escort and domestic stand by paperwork then call us back since it would be violating the conditional bond.

I will be seeking warrants next available date for Aggravated Assault (FV), Criminal Trespass Damage To Property (FV), Exploitation And Intimidation of Elderly Person (F), and Obstruction (F) since Kathryn threw her cell phone at me and grabbed a knife then attempted to conceal the knife in my presence. Kathryn was transported to the Houston County Detention Center and turned over to jail staff without issue.
