On 10/17/2024 at approximately 00:48 hours, I, Dep. K. Barfield, was on duty with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), in uniform, with my badge displayed. I was assigned to the Patrol Division when I was dispatched to the intersection of Russell Parkway and Highway 41 in reference to a hit and run accident.

OBSERVATIONS:

Upon my arrival, I met with Ofc. T. Guthrie of the Warner Robins Police Department who advised he witnessed the crash occur. Ofc. Guthrie said he was sitting at the traffic light on Russell Parkway facing westbound when he observed the crash. The involved parties were on Highway 41 facing southbound and both vehicles were in the right-hand turn lane. Ofc. Guthrie went to check on the parties involved and identified the victim as [VICTIM #1] and the offender as Lauren Gibson. He said Lauren had struck [VICTIM #1] from behind with her vehicle. Ofc. Gutherie checked on them for injuries and was told that they were going to resolve the issue between themselves since it was a minor crash. He said that he left and was later sent back because Lauren had driven away without providing [VICTIM #1] with her information. Ofc. Guthrie completed a report (2024-12483).

I spoke with [VICTIM #1] who provided me with the same version of the events as Ofc. Guthrie. He said that his girlfriend [WITNESS #1] was also in the vehicle with him and watched everything transpire. [VICTIM #1] explained that as soon as Ofc. Guthrie drove away, he suggested that he and Lauren pull out of the roadway to exchange information and they got into their vehicles. He said that Lauren then immediately drove away without providing him with her information. [VICTIM #1] did say that he had given Lauren his information but did not expect her to call since she quickly left before he could get hers. I spoke with [WITNESS #1] who was able to provide me with pictures of Lauren’s vehicle.

[VICTIM #1] was driving a blue 2013 Chevrolet Camaro (GA Tag: [REDACTED BY AGENCY]) while Lauren was driving a dark in color 2009 Honda Accord (GA Tag: [REDACTED BY AGENCY]). I obtained a copy of Ofc. Guthrie’s report and determined that he was able to verify Lauren’s identity by checking her tag information and driver’s license information to find a photo of Lauren on her OLN. He advised that she was definitely the person he saw get out of the vehicle when he initially stopped to check on the accident. The damage to [VICTIM #1]’s car was slight but still noticeable. It consisted of small scratches and scrapes on the rear bumper. Photos were taken.

SYNOPSIS:

Given the fact that Ofc. Guthrie observed the crash and identified the offender along with the other evidence I found on scene, I will be seeking warrants against Lauren for hit and run.
