On 06/11/2024 at 1453 hours, I, Ofc. D. Conley, was dispatched to 2720 Watson Boulevard (Walmart) in reference to a male actively shoplifting.
I met with the complainant, [WITNESS #1], in the Loss Prevention and was advised that a black male was observed placing clothing inside a bookbag. The offender, identified as Malaki Nazier Thornton, was already detained inside the Loss Prevention office.
When asked, Mr. Thornton provided the spelling of his first name as “Malachi” and stated that his date of birth was [REDACTED BY AGENCY]2005. Mr. Thornton was unable to provide / refused to provide his physical address. A search revealed the correct spelling of Mr. Thornton’s first name as well as his correct date of birth as [REDACTED BY AGENCY], 2005.
The following items were located inside Mr. Thornton’s bookbag:
—–(2) T-Shirts valued at $6.98 each
—–(2) packs of socks valued at $11.98 each
—–Total: $37.92
The recovered items were turned back over to Ms. [WITNESS #1] / Walmart.
Mr. Thornton was taken into custody with his hands handcuffed behind his back. The handcuffs were double locked and checked for proper fit before Mr. Thornton was placed in the rear transport area of my marked police unit.
I transported Mr. Thornton to Warner Robins Police Department and turned him over to Booking staff for processing on the following charges / citations:
—–M67337 – OCGA 16-8-14 – Theft By Shoplifting
—–M67338 – City Ordinance 13-70 (b) (7) – Disorderly Conduct (Obstruction)
Mr. Thornton’s green bookbag was turned in as property for storage due to him not being able to take it with him to the Houston County Jail. Mr. Thornton was told to make an appointment with the WRPD Property Division to schedule a date / time to retrieve his bookbag.
The rear transport area of my police unit was searched for contraband before and after transporting Mr. Thornton.
