On 04/12/2026 at approximately 2300 hours, I, Officer Hill with the Centerville Police Department, was conducting proactive patrol in my marked, department-issued patrol vehicle in the Grove Landing subdivision, when I conducted an investigative stop on a vehicle located at the intersection of Trenton Drive and Lulu Belle Lane.

Proactive patrol is commonly conducted in this area due to reports of reckless driving, loitering, and narcotic use. This area is located in an undeveloped section of the subdivision with minimal lighting.

The vehicle, a white 2017 Nissan Rogue, was observed at the intersection running with its lights on and its right turn signal activated. The vehicle was stationary, with the passenger side partially off the roadway.

Initially, as I came up to the driver side of the vehicle, I did not observe anyone occupying it. However, upon exiting my patrol vehicle and conducting a driver-side approach, I observed a black female, later identified as Salceta Schofield, occupying the driver seat. I observed Schofield appearing to be unconscious, as she was not moving, her eyes were closed, and her mouth was open. There was no reaction when I shined my flashlight through the driver side window. I then attempted to wake Schofield by banging on the window while informing dispatch of my findings.

After several attempts, Schofield woke up. She then looked at me, put the vehicle in drive, and drove off. At that time, I stated no and banged loudly on the window, as I observed her put the vehicle in drive.

I then informed dispatch and initiated pursuit of the vehicle, with my emergency lights and siren activated. I also advised dispatch the driver was possibly experiencing a medical episode.

Once I was back behind the vehicle, Schofield was observed traveling east along Trenton Drive at a slow rate of speed. She left the roadway numerous times, nearly striking a light pole, as well as several other objects.

Schofield then turned left, with the curve of Trenton Drive and was now traveling north. She began driving on the opposite side of the roadway and onto the curb, nearly striking a fabric fence multiple times before returning to the correct side of the roadway.

At this time, I requested assistance from Georgia State Patrol and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, as it was evident that Schofield was not stopping, despite my emergency equipment being activated.

As Trenton Drive curved left, Schofield continued straight toward a light pole located on the side of the roadway. After striking the curb and the fabric fence, the vehicle came to a stop.

At that point, I exited my patrol vehicle, drew my department-issued sidearm, and approached the vehicle. While approaching, I gave loud verbal commands for Schofield to show her hands and exit the vehicle. Upon reaching the driver’s window, I banged on it once. After numerous verbal commands and advising Schofield that I would break the window, she slowly opened the driver’s door.

Once the door was open, Schofield was slow to put the vehicle in park. Despite continued verbal commands to exit the vehicle, she did not comply. Due to her noncompliance, I physically removed her from the vehicle. After removing her seatbelt, I grabbed one of her arms and pulled her from the vehicle onto the ground. Once I gained control of both wrists, I was able to detain Schofield with her hands behind her back.

Once other officers arrived on scene, Schofield was assisted off the ground and placed in front of my patrol vehicle.

During this interaction, I asked Schofield several times if she had any medical conditions, and she stated that she did not.

Due to an improper reading of the vehicles license plate, I was initially advised of the wrong registered owner. When I asked Schofield if she was Mrs. Butler, the registered owner of the wrong vehicle, she stated that she was.

While interacting with Schofield, I detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person. I was also informed by Corporal McBean that Schofield admitted to having consumed several alcoholic beverages, prior to driving.

Based on the observed driving behavior, her admission to consuming alcohol, the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and her condition upon initial contact, it was determined that Schofield was driving under the influence of alcohol.

I read Schofield implied consent, and upon completion, she consented to a chemical test of her blood. Subsequently, Schofield was placed in custody at 2317 hours and secured in the rear of my patrol vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene, and I was advised that Schofield was medically cleared.

While officers were still on scene, dispatch advised that Scholfield’s husband had called, stating that she had been following him home from a venue, when he lost sight of her and requested officers make contact with him.

I then transported Schofield to the Houston County Detention Center. Once there, Schofield began asking questions about what had occurred and appeared not to remember the events, including asking if someone had been following her. I informed her no one had been following her and explained the events that had occurred.

Once in the blood draw room, Schofield stated she was confused about why she was there. I explained I had read implied consent to her on scene and that she had consented to a blood draw. Schofield then stated she did not remember this. I reread implied consent to Schofield, at which time she refused a state-administered chemical test of her blood.

Schofield was issued three citations: Reckless Driving (OCGA 40-6-390), Fleeing/Attempting to Elude Police (OCGA 40-6-395), and Driving Under the Influence refusal (OCGA 40-6-392).

Scholfield’s vehicle, the Nissan Rogue, was removed from the scene by Bowtie Towing. An inventory of the vehicle was conducted, which yielded no items of high value.

While at the detention center, Schofield showed me she was bleeding from a fingertip. It is unknown whether this occurred during my use of force or during EMS testing of her blood glucose levels.
