At approximately 2344 hours, dispatch received a call reporting that a male had been struck by a motor vehicle on New Clinton Rd, and that the vehicle had fled the scene. The caller advised that the victim remained in the roadway.
Upon arrival, I observed a male victim lying in the roadway. For safety, I, Deputy T, moved the victim out of the roadway into the driveway of [2800 BLOCK] New Clinton Rd. While on scene, I observed a piece of debris believed to have come from the suspect vehicle. The item was collected as evidence. While awaiting EMS and fire personnel, I was able to identify the victim as [VICTIM #1].
A residence at [2800 BLOCK] New Clinton Rd was equipped with a Ring camera; however, the footage did not capture the incident. EMS and additional deputies arrived shortly thereafter to assist. Cpl. Ribeiro utilized Flock camera systems to identify possible suspect vehicles traveling through the area at the time of the incident. Two vehicles of interest were identified: one associated with [200 BLOCK] Neptune Ct and another with [100 BLOCK] Emerald Park. I responded with Cpl. Ribeiro to [200 BLOCK] Neptune Ct, while Deputy Traver and Lt. Johnson responded to [100 BLOCK] Emerald Park. Upon arrival at [200 BLOCK] Neptune Ct, the vehicle present showed no signs of damage and was cleared.
Deputy Traver and Lt. Johnson located a vehicle at [100 BLOCK] Emerald Park with visible damage. I responded to that location, where the suspect, later identified as Bob Allen, was detained pending further investigation. I observed damage to the windshield and front passenger side of the vehicle, as well as paint transfer consistent with the victim’s motor scooter. During the investigation, the piece of debris collected from the scene was compared to the suspect vehicle and was found to be consistent and match the damaged area of the vehicle.
Lt. Johnson advised Allen of his Miranda rights, which he acknowledged and waived, agreeing to speak. Allen stated he believed he had struck a deer and did not know why he failed to call 911. I asked Allen for his driver’s license and vehicle keys, which he stated were inside the residence.
Deputy Dennis requested a 49 wrecker to tow the vehicle for evidentiary hold. Cpl. Ribeiro and I accompanied Allen inside the residence, where he retrieved his license from his room. Allen requested to take $1,200 in cash with him. Cpl. Ribeiro and I counted $1,200 in Allen’s presence and placed it in his right pocket, as he had an unknown amount of cash in his left pocket.
Allen was placed under arrest for Hit and Run with Injuries and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Photographs were taken of the vehicle and scene. The vehicle was towed to 49 Wrecker for storage.
The extent of [VICTIM #1]’s injuries is unknown at this time. All evidence and paperwork was completed and turn in.
