JONES COUNTY, Ga. – Two Macon men have been arrested in connection with a break-in at the Jones County Animal Shelter, where a dog scheduled for euthanasia was taken without authorization, authorities said.
James and Donald Spicer were taken into custody Tuesday, May 20, on outstanding warrants for second-degree burglary. Investigators said the two are the former owners of the dog and entered the shelter illegally to retrieve the animal, which had reportedly been slated for euthanasia following a prior biting incident.
The arrests were the result of a joint effort between Investigator Hall, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators identified the suspects during the course of the investigation and linked them to the unauthorized removal of the dog. Officials have not released further details about the original biting incident, and the dog’s current whereabouts remain unknown.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office thanked all participating agencies for their assistance in apprehending the suspects. The case remains under investigation.
