On 7/12/2026 at approximately 0121 hours I, Officer C. Korb, responded Code 3 (Non-emergency) to [600 BLOCK] Greenwood St. in reference to a vehicle striking another vehicle and leaving the scene.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the owner of Vehicle 2, [VICTIM #1], who stated she was dropping off her siblings at their parent’s residence before returning home. While she was out of the vehicle assisting her siblings in retrieving items from the trunk, Vehicle 1, later identified as driven by Kenya Shaw, reversed out of a parking space and struck Vehicle 2 before leaving the scene. I was also informed that another female, [REDACTED], was still in Vehicle 2 when it was struck. While obtaining information from [VICTIM #1] and taking pictures of the damage to her vehicle, they pointed to a vehicle entering the apartment complex, stating that was the vehicle that struck them.

I made contact with the driver, K. Shaw, and asked if hers was the vehicle that struck Vehicle 2. She stated she did hit Vehicle 2, saying that they would not move out of her way. When I asked if she asked [VICTIM #1] to move the vehicle, she responded with a question of why she should need to do that. At this time, I noticed that K. Shaw’s eyes had a glassy appearance as well as her speech being slightly slurred. She also was unable to look directly at me while talking and seemed highly agitated. I could also detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath while she was speaking. I asked K. Shaw if she had been drinking tonight, and she responded that she had some drinks. I then asked K. Shaw to exit the vehicle.

Upon exiting the vehicle, K. Shaw was unable to maintain her balance, to the point of almost falling over, and continued to sway after Officer Schmidt caught her. I asked K. Shaw if she would be willing to do Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) and she stated she would. After giving the verbal instructions for the first test, I attempted to begin the test by asking her to confirm if she could see the top of my pen, and she refused to respond to me at this time. After several attempts to have her respond, the last time asking “yes, no, maybe?” she responded with “maybe”. At this time I discontinued the SFST as it appeared that K. Shaw no longer wanted to participate.

I placed K. Shaw under arrest for driving under the influence. I placed handcuffs on both wrists, double-locking them and placed her in the back seat of my patrol vehicle (Unit 18) after ensuring the backseat was clear of any contraband and seatbelted her in. I then took pictures of the damage to her vehicle before allowing a sober driver to pull it into a parking space. I finished speaking with [VICTIM #1] and transported K. Shaw to the Lamar County Detention Center.

Upon arrival at the detention center, I had K. Shaw exit my vehicle, checking the backseat for any contraband left behind, and escorted her inside to turn her over to jail staff. I then read implied consent twice for the breath test, due to her yelling so loudly I wanted to ensure she heard me the first time, then read it again for the blood test. She refused to give a yes or no answer each time, arguing that I was supposed to read her this as well as her Miranda warning at the time of her arrest. At this time I issued citations for DUI-Alcohol Less Safe, Criminal Trespass, and Failure to report an Accident involving Damage.
