Deputies responded to a domestic dispute with a weapon call. While deputies were responding we asked for Barnesville officers to respond due to the fact that deputies were coming from across the county. When Barnesville police arrived they took two people into custody. A Ms. Molly Moncrief and Mr. James McDaniel. Also on the scene was a Mr. [VICTIM #1] and a Mrs. [VICTIM #2] the sister of Mr. [VICTIM #1].
Deputies interviewed Mr. [VICTIM #1] and Mrs. [VICTIM #2] who stated that Mr. [VICTIM #1] came back to his home to retrieve some of his belongings and could not get in the front door because it had been padlocked closed. So Mr. [VICTIM #1] and Mrs. [VICTIM #2] went around the house to the back door because he knew that backdoor lock was broken. When they walked in the back door Ms. Moncrief was pointing a shotgun at them. Mr. [VICTIM #1] and Mrs. [VICTIM #2] stated that they were afraid she was going to shoot them. When Ms. Moncrief lowered the gun she went out the back door and handed the gun to James McDaniel who then got on a four wheeler and left the scene.
When I walked up to Ms. Moncrief she stated to me that she lied to me when I was at her house earlier in the day. She also said she was worried because she is a felon and is not supposed to have a gun. I asked her where the gun was and she said she didn’t’t know that she had given it to Mr. McDaniel and that it may be a her dads house.
Officers and deputies searched the property for a shotgun and was not able to locate the gun. We asked Mr. McDaniel about the shotgun and he stated that he didn’t’t know anything about a shotgun and didn’t see a gun. He stated that he was only there to help her lock the house up. Mr. McDaniel was released at this time as the investigation continued.
I told Mr. [VICTIM #1] that I would be taking Ms. Moncrief to jail and he did not have to leave his home if he didn’t want to. While I was talking to Mr. [VICTIM #1] in their room I did see a 12 gauge shotgun shell on the dresser. I asked Ms. Moncrief again about the gun and where it might be and she stated that the gun wasn’t even real. I will be getting warrants for Ms. Moncrief and Mr. McDaniel.
