At the date of 04/04/2026 at the approximate time of 20:57 p.m. I, Officer F. Schmidt responded to 419 Atlanta Street for a burglary.
Upon arrival myself and Officer Korb arrived at the Red Apple Mart which is on 419 Atlanta St. While stepping out we had multiple people screaming that a male is inside with a gun and holding the cashier hostage. I then took out my firearm. I advised everyone who was around the mart to back up to a safe distance. Both Officer Korb and I tried to open the door, however it was locked. I glanced through the front door and could not see anyone inside. While holding an angle on the door, Korb advised me that there is a male and a female behind the counter of the registry. I advised dispatch to go ahead and get more units on scene. While waiting for more units the female behind the registry came to the door. The female let us inside the store. While entering the male who was behind the counter came up.
Myself and Officer Korb then drew our firearms at him and gave him verbal commands to get on the ground. The subject went to the ground and complied. I put handcuffs on the subject and double locked them. After handcuffing the subject I patted him down and found his ID on him. The subject was Quinntarus Brown. I took the detainee to my patrol vehicle #13 and advised him that at the time he is detained. During that time I made a call to the investigator who was on call and advised him of the incident. I then handed out witness statement forms to all the witnesses.
Once the witnes forms were filled out everyone was free to go. The investigator then spoke to the witnesses and advised the female who was [WITNESS #1] if they had video footage of the incident. She advised him that it would be ready in the morning. I then spoke to Mr. Brown and asked him if it would be ok to give the vehicle to Ms. [WITNESS #1] due to them being friends. He advised it was ok. I then transported the detainee to Lamar County Detetnion Center.
Later after reviewing the video footage of the store the offender Quinntarus Brown did not commit a crime other than public drunk. I then issued him a citation.
