On April 8th 2026, @ approximately 8:00pm, I Deputy Swindell was dispatched to [REDACTED], in reference to the welfare check of a child.
Upon my arrival, I met with [WITNESS #1] and Amber Mclendon, Parents of [VICTIM #1]. I spoke with [WITNESS #1] and explained that a welfare check had been requested by an anonymous caller regarding [VICTIM #1]. While speaking with [WITNESS #1], [WITNESS #1] expressed that [VICTIM #1] had been throwing temper tantrums and not listening, and screaming because [VICTIM #1] did not want to do her homework.
I spoke with [VICTIM #1] and asked [VICTIM #1] if she was okay at home, and if she was being hurt. [VICTIM #1] denied any claims of being hurt by her parents, but had mentioned that her dad, [WITNESS #1], would spank her on her butt. [VICTIM #1] followed up that her step mother Amber had pulled [VICTIM #1]s hair the night before.
I proceeded to speak with Amber and Amber showed me several videos of [VICTIM #1] throwing temper tantrums and screaming and refusing to do basic chores that a child her age is capable of doing so in normal circumstances. I expressed concern about Amber pulling [VICTIM #1]s hair. Amber informed me that it happened by accident and that [VICTIM #1]s hair did get tangled around Amber’s finger, however they already have a Case Worker with Department of Family and Child Services that is trying to assist the family with getting [VICTIM #1] mental health help. Amber advised that [VICTIM #1] has previously self harmed and has had thoughts in the past with harming herself.
I had [VICTIM #1] flip her hair over her face and I visually examined [VICTIM #1]s head for bald spots that would indicate abusive hair pulling and did not see any.
I spoke with Amber and [WITNESS #1] and offered solutions and advised that a report would be filed with the Laurens County Sheriffs Office.
