On Wednesday, March 3, 2022 at approximately 0927 hours, I was stationary in the median of I-95 at the 79 mile marker. I was facing the southbound lanes of travel. Deputy Recore was parked in his patrol vehicle parallel to mine conducting speed enforcement. I observed a black sedan traveling southbound on I-95, in the inside lane of travel, which appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputy Recore verified the sedan speed by Laser (serial number LF) at 91 mph in a posted 70 mph speed zone. I conducted a traffic stop using my emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle was identified as a Hyundai Elantra with Georgia license plate display of [REDACTED]. The vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder of I-95 at the 78 mile marker.
I conducted a driver’s side approach to the vehicle. I identified myself and advised the driver of the reason for the traffic stop. I requested a driver’s license from the driver and he was unable to provide it. He stated he did not have a license and advised his was suspended. He provided me with his Georgia identification card, he was identified as Mr. Mccall.
I requested a status check of Mr. Mccall’s driver’s license through dispatch, using his Georgia identification card number. Dispatch advised Mr. Mccall did not have a valid driver’s license. Mr. Mccall had a violation date of 09/09/2021 and active suspension date of 12/28/2021 in reference to a failure to appear. He had two failure to appears.
I reapproached the vehicle and instructed Mr. Mccall to exit it and walk to the front of my patrol vehicle. I placed him under arrest (in double locked handcuffs which were checked for fit). I searched him incident to arrest with no contraband found. I escorted him to the rear passenger side of my patrol car and placed him in the back seat. The rear seat of my patrol vehicle was searched prior to the beginning of my shift, with no contraband found.
Mr. Mccall’s vehicle was turned over to his mother, Ms. [REDACTED], whom had a valid Georgia driver’s license (OLN #[REDACTED]).
I transported Mr. Mccall to the Liberty County Jail without incident. He was turned over to jail staff. Mr. Mccall received two citations: 1) driving on a suspended license, and 2) Speeding. I searched the rear seat of my patrol vehicle after transport and no contraband was found. My body worn camera was active during the entire incident.
