On 10/21/2025, at approximately 0740 hours, I was patrolling Elma G Miles Pkwy when I was flagged down by a citizen, later identified as Mr [VICTIM #1], who stated he was involved in an accident and the other driver, later identified as Mr Brandon Betton, left the scene.
Before I could turn my patrol vehicle around, Mr [VICTIM #1] stated Mr Betton took off again, entered his vehicle, a green 2003 Chevrolet Suburban (GA tag [REDACTED BY AGENCY]), and began pursuing Mr Betton down Elma G Miles Pkwy towards W General Screven Way. I followed Mr [VICTIM #1] to the intersection of W General Screven Way and South Main St where he and Mr Betton stopped. As I approached the intersection, Mr [VICTIM #1] and Mr Betton were outside of their vehicles and standing behind Mr Betton’s vehicle, a black [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Lexus ES350 (GA tag [REDACTED BY AGENCY]). I exited my patrol vehicle and observed Mr [VICTIM #1] attempting to stop Mr Betton from leaving the scene.
I gave Mr [VICTIM #1] a command to step back, which he complied with. I detained Mr Betton in handcuffs, checked for a fit, searched and placed him in the back seat of my patrol vehicle. I ran both GA tags and Mr [VICTIM #1] and Mr Betton’s driver’s license through GCIC/NCIC and central, the tags and licenses came back valid no wants.
Mr [VICTIM #1] stated he was in the left turn lane at the intersection of Elma G Miles Pkwy and Veterans Pkwy when he started to drive forward the light turned green and he was impacted by Mr Betton’s vehicle on the passenger side of his vehicle causing damage (scratches and dents) to the front and back passenger side doors and passenger side rear bumper of his vehicle and damage to the driver side headlight and driver side front bumper of Mr Betton’s vehicle. Mr [VICTIM #1] stated Mr Betton then left the scene by heading east on Elma G Miles Pkwy.
Mr Betton stated he was in the number 2 lane on Elma G Miles Pkwy at the intersection of Elma G Miles Pkwy and Veterans Pkwy and turned left into the left turn lane impacting Mr [VICTIM #1]’s vehicle on the passenger side, causing damage (scratches and dents) to the front and back passenger side doors and passenger side rear bumper of Mr [VICTIM #1]’s vehicle and damage to the driver side headlight and driver side front bumper of his vehicle. Mr Betton admitted to leaving the scene.
Mr [REDACTED], Mr Brandon Betton’s father and registered owner of the [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Lexus, arrived on scene. The vehicle was released to him.
I advised Mr Brandon Betton he was under arrest for hit & run, seat belted in, and transported to the Liberty County Jail (LCJ) where I issued him a citation for hit & run (bond $614.00) and improper lane change (bond $110.00). Mr Betton was released to the custody of the LCJ. The back seat of my patrol vehicle was searched before and after the transport of Mr Betton.
