On Friday March 04, 2022 at approximately 2320 hours while conducting a highway safety check on Hwy 84 near Cherokee Circle, I observed a white Chevy Tahoe (GA Temp Tag# [REDACTED]) approach my location traveling East Bound. I observed a powerful odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the drivers window, and I had the driver pull off into the center turn lane for further investigation.
The driver was identified by her Georgia Drivers License as Brittney Wright. I had Ms Wright exit the vehicle as well as her passenger who was identified as Mr Marcus Stevenson. I explained to both occupants the strong odor of marijuana, however they both stated there shouldn’t be anything inside.
Deputy Styles assisted, to conduct a battery of field sobriety exercises with the driver. I searched the vehicle and located a black bag in the center console containing a few smaller bags inside. 2 zip lock style bags contained a green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana. There was a small clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana. There was a hand rolled cigar containing a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana, and a blue metal grinder with a green leafy substance inside suspected to be marijuana. In the cup holder in the center console was a white styrofoam cup containing a clear liquid. The Liquid had an odor of an alcoholic beverage.
I asked Mr Stevenson if the marijuana belonged to him. He stated he knew nothing of the marijuana and stated it did not belong to the driver either. Mr Stevenson stated the drink in the cup was his.
Deputy Styles informed me that Ms Wright was under the influence of narcotics and was too impaired to drive. Ms Wright stated she did not know about the marijuana inside the vehicle.
Both individuals were placed under arrest, secured in double locked hand restraints that were checked for fit, and turned over to Booking Officers who were already on scene. Both were searched and no contraband was located.
Ms Wright was charged with DUI, Criminal attempt to commit a misd., and possession of drug related objects. Ms Stevenson was charged with Criminal attempt to commit a misd., Open container, and possession of drug related object.
