On Tuesday January 18, 2022 at approximately 1553 hrs, I was running stationary radar at the 73 mm on I-95. I was monitoring northbound traffic when I observed a black sports utility vehicle approaching my location at a high rate of speed northbound in the number 1 lane (fast lane). It appeared this vehicle was traveling at a higher rate of speed than the posted speed limit of 70 mph. I activated my department issued golden Eagle II directional radar and received an audible tone and digital reading of 90 mph. I locked this speed and allowed the vehcle to pass my location. I cleared traffic and activated my emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop on the speeding vehicle. The vehicle slowed and stopped about 1/2 mile south of exit 76.
I activated my body worn camera and exited my patrol vehicle. I made a passenger side approach for officer safety and made contact with the vehicle occupants. I informed the driver of the reason for the traffic stop and requested her driver’s license. The driver was identified to be Danisha Rodriguez by her Conneticut driver’s License she provided. While speaking with the driver and the occupants inside the vehicle, I could smell the distinct odor of marjuana coming from inside the vehicle.
I walked back to my patrol vehicle and requested another unit to assist with a vehicle search.
Deputies Chapman and Davis later arrived on scene to assist. All occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle and checked for weapons and contraband. Nothing was located on their persons. I then requested all occupants to provide their names and date of birth for identification purposes.
I questioned the driver Danisha Rodriguez about the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and she told me the marijuana was inside a pink purse in the back seat of the vehicle. I located the pink purse and located one bag of marijuana and a marijuana Grinder. Danisha advised the marijuana and Grinder belonged to her but she kept it inside Rayshawna Green’s pink purse.
Deputy Davis and I then conducted a hand search of the vehicle while Deputy Chapman stood by with the driver and occupants.
During a hand search of the vehicle Deputy Davis located 6 packages of what at this time appeared to be marijuana, one package containing three Extacy pills. These items were located inside a brown purse behind the driver seat. When the driver and occupants were asked who the brown purse belonged to Danisha Rodriguez advised it belonged to her. When questioned about the contraband located inside the purse she advised it also belonged to her but advised she forgot the pills were in there. Also located inside the brown purse were two false identification cards and what appeared to be a cloned credit card with the false name printed on it from one of the false identification cards.
I then notified Detective Sanders with the Liberty County Narcotics Unit, he was briefed and advised he would be en-route. Detective Sanders later arrived on scene. When Detective Sanders arrived on scene, he also conducted a hand search of the vehicle and located a more extacy pills inside a piece of balled up Alluminum foil. Ths was located in a pair of shoes in the back of the vehicle. Detective Sanders asked the occupants who the shoes belonged to and Natasha Gonzales advised they belonged to her. Detective Sanders inquired about the Extacy pills and Natasha advised she for got they were in there.
While on scene Detective Sanders photographed field tested and secured all evidence located on this traffic stop and this investigation was turned over to him.
Detective Sanders later adivsed he wanted to place a hold on Danisha Rodriguez and Natasha Gonzales for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Rodriguez and Gonzales were both handcuffed (Double Locked and Checked for Fit) without incident and searched incident to arrest. My rear seat was cleared for weapons and contraband and they were both placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle awaiting to be transported to the Liberty County Jail.
The vehicle Rodriguez was operating was turned over to Rayshawna Green and Yosmarie Davila.
Upon my arrival to the Liberty County Jail, Rodriguez and Gonzales were turned over to jail booking staff and my rear seat of my patrol vehicle was cleared again for weapons and contraband and nothing was located.
Danisha Rodriguez was issued one uniform traffic citation for Speeding 90/70, this citation was forwarded to the Superior Courts of Liberty County. A hold was also placed on Rodriguez for Possession of Schedule II controlled Substance.
A hold was also placed on Natasha Gonzales for Possession of Schedule II controlled Substance by Detective Sanders with the Liberty County Narcotics Unit.
This case is closed with two arrests.
I was later informed by Detective Sanders that two of the six packages located in the Brown Purse were determined to be Hallucinogenic Mushrooms. Detective advised he would also taking arrest warrants for possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance as well.
