Liberty County (October 12, 2022) – Police have arrested a man after being called to the 2300 block of Suttle Court concerning a complaint of a peeping tom. The man, identified as Reginald Cameron, had allegedly been watching his neighbors have intercourse through their bedroom window while masturbating.

One of the victims stated that while he was having sex with his girlfriend in their bedroom, he saw a black male standing with his face pressed to the window and appeared to be pleasuring himself. The victim grabbed his firearm and ran behind the residence to the back bedroom window of the home, where he saw the suspect standing there, masturbating.

The victim asked Cameron what he was doing, and Cameron started running. The victim chased Cameron at gunpoint to the area of Rowe Street and Jacob’s Street until the suspect finally stopped running and returned with the victim to the home where the incident took place.

As police arrived at the residence, they observed the victim holding Cameron at gunpoint. They instructed the victim to step away from Cameron and lower his firearm. They then detained the suspect for questioning.

Upon inquiring with Cameron about why he had been in the backyard of his neighbor’s house, the suspect told police that he knew his neighbor was a soldier that had just returned home from deployment and was looking to “score some dope.” He stated he believed the victim might know how to obtain drugs since he was also Hispanic and rode motorcycles.

When asked where he had planned on finding dope in his neighbor’s backyard, Cameron said that he was going to ask his neighbors. He said he followed the couple as they moved from the living room to the bedroom and that he had walked to the rear of the residence to the backdoor, then to the bedroom window and looked inside, but couldn’t see what was going on because the light was turned off. Officers asked if he had planned on trying to gain entry to the residence, and Cameron said that he didn’t have anything to use to get in.

The suspect didn’t realize that the victim had exited the residence and was surprised when confronted. As the victim was chasing Cameron, he ran out of his shoes, a pair of Nike slides, which officers observed in the backyard leading to the fence. The victim also told police that he saw the suspect throw something during the chase in a neighboring yard, which was concluded to be Cameron’s jacket.

Upon further questioning about the suspect watching the couple through the bedroom window, Cameron stated that he was watching them with his hands in his pockets. Police asked Cameron what he had in his pockets and if he had been manipulating something while watching the couple, and Cameron stated he had been playing with his keys.

An officer asked Cameron to demonstrate how he had been playing with his keys in his pocket, and Cameron showed the officer his keys and began demonstrating a jerking motion with them. When asked how long he had been watching the couple and manipulating his keys in this jerking fashion, Cameron stated he had been doing it for about five or ten minutes before the victim confronted him.

Cameron denied masturbating but was placed under arrest and transported to the Liberty County jail. He was charged with criminal trespass, peeping tom, and public indecency- felony, third or subsequent offense, meaning he has had at least two prior similar violations of this kind.

[NARRATIVE #1 on October 12, 2022]

On 10/12/2022 at 0110 hrs I was dispatched to [2300 BLOCK] Suttle Ct in reference to a suspicious person.

I arrived on scene and observed Scpl Wong #143 detaining a male (later identified as Reginald Cameron) near the scene. I made contact with the complainant [VICTIM #1], Mr [VICTIM #1] stated while he was having intercourse with his girlfriend ([VICTIM #2]) in their bed room he observed a male standing outside the rear bedroom window with his face pressed against the screen touching himself.

Mr [VICTIM #1] grabbed his firearm and exited the residence via the front door of his residence. Mr [VICTIM #1] entered the backyard of his residence and observed the man mast*rbating at his bedroom window. He asked the male what he was doing and the man began running. He chased the man who he later identified as his next door neighbor. Mr [VICTIM #1] chased Mr Cameron to the area of Rowe St and Jacobs St. Mr Cameron stopped running and returned to the incident location with Mr [VICTIM #1].

I made contact with Mr Cameron and read him his miranda rights. I asked Mr Cameron why he was in the backyard of his neighbors house. Mr Cameron stated he knew his neighbor is a soldier who recently returned from deployment and was casing the neighborhood looking for “dope”.

Mr Cameron advised he observed Mr [VICTIM #1] and Ms [VICTIM #2] in the living room watching TV and walked around to the backyard as he saw them move to the bedroom. I asked Mr Cameron where he was planning on looking for “dope” in their backyard. Mr Cameron advised he walked towards the backdoor then to the back window. I asked Mr Cameron what he was planning on doing at the back door/window and if he was planning on making entry into the residence.

Mr Cameron stated he did not have anything to make entry into the residence with. Mr Cameron advised he did not realize Mr [VICTIM #1] had exited the residence to confront him in the backyard.

I observed Mr Cameron’s Nike Slides (he verified they belonged to him) that fell off while being chased from the residence in the back yard leading to the fence. Mr [VICTIM #1] advised while chasing Mr Cameron he saw him discard something near a neighboring residence. I walked to area with Mr [VICTIM #1] and located a black jacket which was verified by Mr Cameron as belonging to him. Mr [VICTIM #1] advised he observed scratch marks on his back screen windows and suspected Mr Cameron was scratching at his window.

Photographs of the Nike Slides, jacket, and screen were taken and attached to this report.

[NARRATIVE #2 on October 12, 2022]

On 10/12/2022 at approximately 0100 hours, I responded to the incident location in reference to a report of a peeping tom. Per the complainant, a male was observed looking through their window and the complainant’s boyfriend was actively chasing the male in the neighborhood on foot.

Upon my arrival, I observed the complainant’s boyfriend, Mr [VICTIM #1], holding the offender, Mr Reginald Cameron, at gunpoint at the end of the driveway of the incident location.

I directed Mr [VICTIM #1] to step away from Mr Cameron and clear his firearm in which he complied. I detained Mr Cameron in handcuffs which were double-locked and escorted him to my patrol vehicle awaiting the arrival of additional units. Mr Cameron was patted down for weapons with no findings. Mr Cameron was advised he was being detained while we investigated this incident.

Officer Davila arrived on scene and began obtaining statements from the victims in this case while Mr Cameron was secured in a patrol vehicle.

At the conclusion of Officer Davila’s interview with Mr Cameron (Miranda Warning Read), I began speaking to Mr Cameron. I asked Mr Cameron if he was clear on his rights under miranda that were read by Officer Davila. Mr Cameron informed me he understood his rights.

While speaking with Mr Cameron I asked him what was his choice of drugs/narcotics due to him previously uttering he was “looking for dope”. Mr Cameron advised his choice of drug was “weed”. I asked Mr Cameron if he used any other narcotics and he advised cocaine but a long time ago. Mr Cameron advised he was not under the influence of any drug/narcotic nor going through withdrawals of any type.

Mr Cameron advised he did not know Mr [VICTIM #1] or Ms [VICTIM #2] to use or sell narcotics but believed they may know where to get it because they have motorcycles and Mr [VICTIM #1] is Hispanic.

While speaking with Mr Cameron he informed me he viewed the couple through their window in the backyard while they were in the living room. He advised they were watching TV. He then stated they went to a bedroom so he walked to the bedroom window and began looking in. Mr Cameron advised the light went out in the bedroom and he was unable to see what they were doing. Mr Cameron advised Mr [VICTIM #1] then began chasing him.

I asked Mr Cameron where were his hands while he was looking in the bedroom window. Mr Cameron advised they were in his pocket. I then asked if he had anything in his pocket he was moving/manipulating and he advised his keys. Mr Cameron removed his keys from his front pocket (while in handcuffs) and showed me the keys. I asked Mr Cameron what he was doing with his keys and he began moving the keys in a “jerking” motion. Mr Cameron again showed me the motion which was within view of my body camera. I asked Mr Cameron how long was he doing the jerking motion while viewing the couple in the bedroom and he advised about 5-10 minutes.

Mr Cameron denied mast*rbating.
