On 02/23/2022 at 0038 hrs, I was driving eastbound on Elma G miles pkwy, when I observed a black BMW 328i, bearing a Georgia license plate #[REDACTED], also driving eastbound. I ran a registration check of the vehicle, which returned the registration was suspended due to having no insurance and the registered owner had a suspended license. At this time I activated my emergency equipment, and conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle. The vehicle pulled on to Gassaway St and came to a stop.

I made contact with the driver, Mr Marcus Gibbs, and told him why I made a traffic stop due to his vehicle showing it had no insurance causing his registration to be suspended. I asked for Mr Gibbs’ license, to which he provided it to me. I ran Mr Gibbs’ license number through central who confirmed it was suspended for a failure to appear through the Hinesville municipal court. I gave Mr Gibbs the opportunity to get insurance on his vehicle to avoid it being towed. Mr Gibbs was unable to obtain insurance and I advised central to have next on list for impound en route. Central advised Kevin’s towing was en route.

I asked Mr Gibbs to exit his vehicle and advised him he would be placed under arrest for his suspended license. During the search subsequent to arrest, Mr Gibbs stated he did have a “roach” on him and a grinder in his pocket. Both items were located and collected. Mr Gibbs stated: “I am not a dealer or nothing like that, I just like to smoke weed”.

Mr Gibbs was placed under arrest (handcuffed, checked for fit and double locked). Mr Gibbs was searched and placed in the back seat of my patrol car and buckled in.

Kevin’s towing arrived on scene and assumed responsibility of Mr Gibbs’ vehicle. An impound sheet and inventory was completed for Mr Gibbs’ vehicle.

Mr Gibbs was transported and released to the Liberty county jail. He was cited for driving while license suspended (second offense), simple misdemeanor possession of marijuana, no insurance and no license plate.

Mr Gibbs’ total bond was: $2,631.25.

All evidence was transported to the Hinesville police department and stored in temporary drug evidence locker 2.

My department issued body worn camera was active for the duration of this traffic stop.
