On 11-24-21 at approximately 0138 hours I was dispatched to [800 BLOCK] Madison Dr in reference to a domestic. Upon arrival I spoke to Ms Deanna Gent. S/cpl Wong (143), Ofc Santiago (160), and Ofc Colvin (129) were also on scene.
Ms Gent stated her boyfriend, Mr Nelson Brockenborough, had questioned her about a male friend she had messaged. He was constantly asking about the male and their relationship throughout the night. He stood in her way as she tried to leave and he became more aggressive. He began yelling and cursing at her while standing in an aggressive manner (cracking his knuckles, tense shoulders, close to Ms Gent’s face). She believed he was about to become physically aggressive so she punched him on the left cheek. She pushed past him and walked into another room.
I spoke to Mr Brockenborough but due to his intoxicated state he did not explain everything that occurred. He did state that Ms Gent punched him in the face.
I observed minor scratches on Mr Brockenborough’s left cheek
Ofc Santiago spoke to the homeowners, [WITNESS #1] and [WITNESS #2]. Ms [WITNESS #2] stated she saw Ms Gent scratch Mr Brockenborough and push past him but she did not see her punch him. She also saw him stand in Ms Gent’s path in an aggressive manner (cracking his knuckles, tense shoulders, close to Ms Gent’s face). Mr [WITNESS #1] corroborated the statements made by Ms [WITNESS #2]. Once Ms Gent and Mr Brockenborough were separated, Ms [WITNESS #2] tried to get him to calm down. He began yelling at her and Mr [WITNESS #1] began yelling at him for disrespecting his wife.
Both Mr Brockenborough and Ms Gent were placed under arrest for simple assault-FVA and simple battery-FVA respectively. Both were handcuffed and transported to liberty county jail per department policy.
My department issued BWC was activated during my investigation.
Warrants will be obtained and a first appearance bond hearing will be conducted for Mr Brockenborough and Ms Gent.
