On 07/03/2025, at 2249 hours, I was dispatched to Sonic (725 West Oglethorpe Highway) in reference to a fight in progress.
Central advised that the complainant (an employee from Sonic) stated there was approximately 9 people physically fighting in the parking lot.
Upon arrival with SPO Thomas #147 and Officer Munoz #186, we noticed the large crowd in the middle of the parking lot. There was no active physical fight happening when we arrived. The crowd started to disperse towards their vehicles. One female (later identified as Michaela Johnson) started to verbally yell across to another female, which led to her being detained in handcuffs (double locked and checked for fit) and placed in the back of my patrol vehicle. I spoke to Ms. Johnson who stated that the other female who was involved [REDACTED BY AGENCY] had been staying with them due to her parents being away. Ms. Johnson stated that Ms. Oxendine left the house earlier today and has not been heard from for the past 8 hours.
Ms. Johnson advised that her and her mother (Regina King) went to Sonic to grab dinner. Ms. Johnson advised that when they got to Sonic, they realized that Ms. Oxendine was already there with a group of males. Ms. Johnson stated that she tried to talk to Ms. Oxendine and ask her whether or not she was coming home tonight or staying with her male friends. Ms. Johnson stated that Ms. Oxendine then became upset with her and Ms. King aa well as started to yell at them inside the restaurant. Ms. Johnson stated that everyone then went outside, and she noticed that Ms. Oxendine looked like she was going to come after her. Ms. Johnson stated that she handed her drink and her jacket to her mother (Ms. King) when Ms. Oxendine “ran up on her” so she could fight back. Ms. Johnson stated that Ms. Oxendine swung on her and hit her on her right eye. Ms. Johnson stated that she then swung back at Ms. Oxendine, which resulted in them going back-and-forth hitting each other in the parking lot.
Ms. Johnson did have slight swelling on her right eyebrow and had a missing nose ring on her right nostril.
I spoke with Ms. Oxendine who stated that she had been staying with Ms. Johnson and Ms. King due to her parents being away. Ms. Oxendine advised that she was unaware of Ms. King’s house rules and did not know when she was supposed to return back to the house. Ms. Oxendine advised that she went and saw her mother earlier in the day and had been hanging out with a friend [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Ms. Oxendine stated that they went to Sonic to grab dinner and that is when Ms. King showed up in the parking lot and approached the vehicle. Ms. King started to bang on the windows of the vehicle and asking for everyone’s name. Ms. Oxendine stated that there were other family members of Ms. King that showed up in the parking lot as well. Ms. Oxendine stated that she tried to explain to Ms. King that she did not know or understand when she was supposed to be back at the house. Ms. King started to raise her voice and yell at Ms. Oxendine in the parking lot.
Ms. Oxendine advised that is when she noticed that Ms. King, Ms. Johnson and another family member [REDACTED BY AGENCY] were coming at her in an aggressive manner, and she was scared for her own safety. Ms. Oxendine advised that she does not remember who hit who first as they were both engaged in the incident, but she did remember being on the ground. Ms. Oxendine advised that Ms. King was holding her down onto the ground while Ms. Evans was also on top of her, with Ms. Johnson. Ms. Oxendine advised that her friends (Mr. [WITNESS #1] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY]) started to help pull everyone off her and hold them back. Ms. Oxendine advised that there was another female [REDACTED BY AGENCY] that was being held back away from the fight as well.
Ms. Oxendine had multiple scratches along her neck and collarbone. Ms. Oxendine was evaluated by EMS personnel and refused to be transported.
I made contact with Ms. King who stated that Ms. Oxendine had not been answering her phone for the past 8 hours and has not returned back home. Ms. King advised that they went to Sonic to get dinner when she saw Ms. Oxendine there and observed she was with a group of males. Ms. King stated that she went up to the vehicle and wanted to know their names because she did not recognize them and was worried for Ms. Oxendine. Ms. King advised that her and Ms. Oxendine did start to verbally argue because she was worried for her. Ms. King stated that Ms. Oxendine told her that she did not know she was supposed to be returning home at a certain time, and she was not her mother. Ms. King stated that Ms. Johnson and Ms. Oxendine started to physically fight each other after arguing but Ms. Oxendine swung first. Ms. King stated that she was trying to pull Ms. Oxendine off of Ms. Johnson when they fell back onto the grass. Ms. King stated that she had her arms wrapped around Ms. Oxendine in an attempt to pull them apart. Ms. King advised that when all parties were finally separated, they started to walk back to their vehicles and that’s when officers arrived on scene.
Ms. King was also evaluated by EMS personnel and refused transport.
SPO Thomas spoke with Ms. Evans and Ms. [WITNESS #2], who both stated that Ms. Oxendine did swing on Ms. Johnson first after the mutual argument, which then resulted in the whole physical altercation. Ms. Evans stated that she was attempting to pull everyone off of each other to help separate the parties. Ms. [WITNESS #2] stated that one of the males held her back from the altercation and she was not involved in that aspect.
I made contact with Mr. [WITNESS #1] and Mr. [WITNESS #2] who were there with Ms. Oxendine. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he took Ms. Oxendine to see her mother earlier in the day and then they hung out after. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that he did not know that Ms. Oxendine had not been answering Ms. King for the past 8 hours and that she was supposed to go back home. Mr. [WITNESS #1] advised that they were at Sonic grabbing dinner before he was about to drop her off when Ms. King’s family showed up in the parking lot. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that they were verbally arguing with Ms. Oxendine about her not replying and being out all day long. Mr. [WITNESS #1] advised that all the females started to approach Ms. Oxendine, and then they all started to physically fight one another. Mr. [WITNESS #1] advised that he was helping pull everyone off of each other and stop the fighting, that was all.
Ms. Evans, Ms. Johnson, Ms. King and Ms. Oxendine were all placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct (city ordinance 12-2). with a city court date of 07/30/2025 at 0800 hours. The arrest and transport of the suspect were conducted in accordance with department protocol. The suspect was searched incident to arrest. Handcuffs were applied, checked for proper fit, and double-locked to ensure safety. The suspects were then placed in the backseat of SPO Thomas, SPO Bethea and I patrol vehicle and secured with a seatbelt for transport. A search of the patrol vehicle was conducted both prior to and following the transport; no contraband was located.
Upon arrival at the Liberty County Detention Center, the suspects were released into the custody of detention staff without incident.
