On Friday, January 28, 2022 at approximately 2137 hrs, I was stopped at the intersection of GA 38 and Leroy Coffer Hwy waiting for the traffic light to change to green. A silver Toyota Camry was in the right lane, just ahead of my patrol vehicle, which was in the left lane. The Camry displayed a Georgia tag number of [REDACTED]. I used my mobile data terminal to conduct a GCIC status check on the tag number.

The status check returned with the vehicle registration being suspended and the vehicle having no valid insurance. The query also advised the registered owner of the vehicle, Mr. Jones, Tyler, had a suspended license in reference to a failure to appear.

Once onto Leroy Coffer Hwy, I conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. I advised the driver his registration was suspended and his vehicle was showing no valid insurance, and requested a driver’s license and proof of insurance. The driver handed me a Military ID that identified him as Mr. Jones, Tyler. He advised he was pulled over in Monroe County, Georgia and was waiting for his license to come in. I asked if he had valid insurance on the vehicle and he provided an insurance card that expired 01/20/2022. I asked if he had a new insurance card and he stated he did not.

I wrote down the information for the policy and attempted to call the insurance company to verify coverage. The company, First Acceptance, advised they were closed for the weekend, and assistance could only be had by logging into your account. I asked Mr. Jones if he was able to log in to retrieve proof of insurance and he stated he could not. Mr. Jones also stated he was aware of the registration being suspended, because he was arrested for it in Monroe County. He stated he was also aware his license was suspended.

I placed Mr. Jones under arrest and placed him in double locked handcuffs, which were checked for fit. He was searched incident to arrest, with no contraband being located. I placed him in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle which was cleared of contraband prior to the start of my shift.

I requested the next list tow truck for the vehicle and dispatch advised CD’s towing was en route. Lt. Brown arrived on scene and conducted an inventory of the vehicle. The vehicle was turned over to CD’s towing a short while later.

Mr. Jones was transported to the Liberty County Jail and was turned over to the booking staff for processing on three citations: 1) Driving while license suspended, 2) Knowingly driving a motor vehicle with suspended registration, and 3) No valid insurance.

After transport, I searched the rear seat of my patrol vehicle with no contraband being located.
