On March 9, 2022 at 2230 hrs. I, officer Greg Joseph with the Hinesville Police Department, was in the parking lot of EnMarket at 715 East Oglethorpe Highway. I observed a Lexus es300, Ga tag [REDACTED], traveling westbound in the righthand lane. The vehicle did not have any headlights or parking lights on.. I activated my blue lights and siren and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle pulled into the big lots parking lot, 521 W Oglethorpe Hwy, and came to a stop.

I approached the driver’s door and met with the driver, later identified as Zachary Alexander Lewis. I explained to Lewis why I stopped him. Lewis stated that he had just pulled onto the roadway and forgot to turn on his headlights until he got down the roadway. I asked for his driver’s license. I went back to my patrol car to check Lewis through GCIC/NCIC. Lewis came back with a probation violation warrant out of Liberty county, but they did not want a hold placed on him. GCIC/NCIC did show that Lewis’ driver’s license was suspended for an implied consent, violation date 12/15/2021, suspense date 01/30/2022.

I placed Lewis under arrest placing handcuffs behind his back making sure of comfort and fit before I double locked them. I then patted Lewis down for weapons and contraband, none was found. I transported Lewis to the Liberty county sheriff’s office jail for book-in and bonding procedures.

I issued Zachary Alexander Lewis citations for headlights required after sunset, OCGA 40-8-20, and driving while license suspended, OCGA 40-5-121. Lewis vehicle was turned over to his father.

My issued department body camera was on during this investigation.
