On 5/10/2023, I Sgt. Brooks was informed by Madison County Dispatch that Clarke County PD was out with a subject, Tommy Waldrup, (hereafter referred to as Tommy) and that he had active felony warrants out of Madison County for a probation violation.

I advised dispatch to place a hold and that we could meet with Clarke County at Ingles to get him. When I arrived at Ingles to meet Clarke County, I made contact with the Officer and Tommy. When Tommy was removed from the officer’s vehicle I noticed that Tommy’s pants pockets were turned inside out.

I asked the Clarke County Officer if he searched Tommy and he advised that he did. I did a quick pat down of Tommy’s clothing and then placed him in the back seat of my patrol car. When we arrived at the Madison County Jail, Detention Officer Cleghorne began the intake process and started searching Tommy again.

I was advised by Detention Officer Cleghorne that when he shook Tommy’s pants, a white plastic baggie fell from his left front pocket that was still turned inside out. Detention Officer Cleghorne advised me that he could feel something inside the plastic baggie. I took possession of the baggie and when I opened it, I found a crystal/powdery substance inside it.

The substance field tested positive for Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. I placed the substance in an evidence bag. I then spoke with Tommy again. I advised Tommy of Miranda rights and he agreed to talk to me without a lawyer. I asked Tommy about the substance that was found in his pocket. Tommy stated that he didn’t know it was in his pocket and thought he had left it in his truck.

The substance was sealed in an evidence bag and placed into an evidence locker at the Madison County sheriff’s Office. I will be obtaining three warrants on Tommy for; Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Fentanyl, and Crossing the Guard line. No other information to add.
