On August 1st 2025, I, Sgt Christen Adkins, was dispatched to 751 Public Safety Dr (McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office) in reference to an assault.

On arrival, I met with the complainant, [WITNESS #1]. [WITNESS #1] stated that her son’s ex-girlfriend, Karen Shirey, had slept with her 15-year-old son. [WITNESS #1] advised that Shirey had stayed with them for the past four months but recently broke up with her 21-year-old son, [REDACTED]. [WITNESS #1] advised that Shirey came by to pick up her personal belongings from the house and came to her, saying, “I need to tell you something.” [WITNESS #1] said that Shirey then told her that she had “slept with [REDACTED BY AGENCY]” her 15-year-old. [WITNESS #1] said this occurred sometime around June 2025, exact date unknown, as it corresponds with [REDACTED]’s arrest.

Shirey was waiting in the Sheriff’s Office lobby while [WITNESS #1] provided the above information. I approached Shirey and read her Miranda Rights to her. Shire agreed to speak with me without an attorney present. I asked Shire what had occurred between her and [REDACTED BY AGENCY]. Shirey said she was distraught about [REDACTED] being arrested and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] “comforted her.” Shire said things “got out of hand” and she “didn’t really know what she was doing.” Shirey said that she and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] kissed and then it “went sideways.” I asked Shirey to elaborate, and she said that [REDACTED BY AGENCY] “ate her out.” Shirey said that nothing else occurred after or since and it would “never happen again.” This interaction was recorded via my Watchgard system.

I went back outside to speak with [WITNESS #1]. I asked [WITNESS #1] if Shirey had told her what acts occurred. [WITNESS #1] said Shirey admitted it was “oral sex”, and it was performed on her but that was all.

I contact Sgt Land via phone who advised that GBI would be contacted for further investigation and interview of the juvenile.

Shirey advised she was homeless and was transported to [3500 BLOCK] Larkin Rd Lot [REDACTED] to stay with a friend [REDACTED].
