On October 15, 2025 at 7:46 pm I Deputy Callaway I responded to [200 BLOCK] Brentwood Drive in reference to a domestic.
Once on scene I was met by a female smoking a cigarette at the rear of a vehicle parked in the driveway. The female later identified as [VICTIM #1] essentially stated that she and her husband got into a verbal domestic which later turned physical.
[VICTIM #1] stated the argument arose due to her husband not being in work and not getting paid due to him working for the government in Augusta, Ga. Due to [VICTIM #1] stating the argument had gotten physical, I asked if she had looked at her own body and noticed any visible wounds she denied checking her body. [VICTIM #1] stated she was struck in the side of her body, choked around her neck and also struck on her shoulders and arms. Visible markings were observed on both left and right shoulder, with slight red markings visible around her neck.
At that time, images were taken of her visible markings by Deputy Shelton. Deputy Shelton spoke with the caller ([VICTIM #1]’s husband Michael Hawkes). Michael called law enforcement and told the communications officer that his wife broke his pinky finger. As I am speaking with [VICTIM #1], I observed Michael speaking with Deputy Shelton and EMS personnel in the front of the property. As I am speaking with [VICTIM #1], she told me that her mother was inside the home when she and Michael gotten into the verbal and physical argument. Deputy Shelton and I went inside and spoke with [VICTIM #1]’s mother later identified as [WITNESS #1].
Before I asked [WITNESS #1] about the incident that occurred, she stated that Michael got home around the time of 1 pm and started drinking. He drank 4-5 beers, then proceeded to drink a glass of wine and also a small buzz ball that she observed him consume. Due to previous incident at the residence, Michael was arrested of Disorderly Conduct by Sgt. Johnson for his behavior and alcohol consumption.
[WITNESS #1] essentially stated that she was inside her bedroom when she heard her daughter and Michael arguing. [WITNESS #1] stated that she could hear her daughter “gargling” for air due to Michael having his hands around her throat. I asked [WITNESS #1] where was [VICTIM #1] and Michael when the two were arguing and Michael had his hands around her throat, she stated in the walkway from the living room to the hallway. After the two both separated themselves, they walked into the bedroom.
While inside the bedroom, Michael put [VICTIM #1] into a headlock and had her pinned down on the bed and began choking her once more. [WITNESS #1] stated she heard her daughter yell out “he is killing me mom help”. When [WITNESS #1] walked into the bedroom the two separated once more and at that time, [VICTIM #1] walked outside and Michael stated he was calling law enforcement.
Due to Michael’s complaint about a broken pinky, EMS Med #1 was dispatched and arrived on scene and transported him to Piedmont McDuffie. As Michael left the residence, I asked [VICTIM #1] if she would give me a written statement. She agreed. The written statement was obtained and added into this report. [VICTIM #1] was given a case number for this report as well as a safe homes of Augusta card and advised of possible remedies.
I left the residence and filed for a warrant for the arrest of Michael Hawkes.
As warrant service was being conducted, [VICTIM #1] called law enforcement and advised that Michael called her and sent her text messages stating that he wanted her to come get him from the hospital. [VICTIM #1] advised that she was scared of Michael and was not going to pick him up. Michael stated that either she would pick him up or he would walk home or even call a Uber to transport him back home.
Due to the cooperation from [VICTIM #1], a location was obtained, and Michael was taken into custody on the side of the road near the intersection of Thomson Bypass/Dallas Drive. Michael was advised he had a warrant for his arrest. Hand restraints were placed on Michael’s wrist and checked for proper fitting and double locked. Michael was transported to the McDuffie Conty jail and turned over to the jail staff without further incident.
