MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. – A 25-year-old Army National Guard soldier from Abbeville, Louisiana, was charged with murder for shooting a man he found in bed with his ex-girlfriend at Fort Eisenhower on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia Jill E. Steinberg said that Natravien Landry had his initial appearance in court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian K. Epps on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Landry reportedly arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child at approximately 7:15 AM and spotted a truck parked outside. After asking a relative to whom it belonged, he forced entry into the residence and barged into a bedroom, where he discovered his ex-girlfriend in bed with a romantic partner.

She explained that Landry was jealous. She said she awoke to strange noises, and upon opening her eyes, she saw him at the door.

She approached to speak with him, and when she turned, she heard the bang of the gunshot. A nearby witness explained that she also heard the shot and saw a flash in the hall.

Witnesses said the suspect struck the victim with the gun multiple times before he shot him and fled the scene. A witness allegedly struggled with Landry and stumbled down the stairs as a result.

The man who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, Sergeant Andre S. Stewart Jr., passed away at a local hospital approximately 30 minutes after being shot.

Fort Eisenhower initiated a lockdown at 7:50 AM, but not before Landry drove away in a Toyota Camry. Authorities apprehended him on I-85, just south of Atlanta, after cell phone pings and security footage determined his location.

As the deputies began their felony traffic stop, they observed the suspect throw a 9mm firearm out his window. They said he confessed to the shooting.

United States Marshals transported him to the Lincoln County Jail, a center that holds federal prisoners. Landry’s federal court appearances are pending.

Court documents listed Landry as an Army National Guard soldier assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company.
